Question:

What would be a good, but easy snack for a tiger cub scout den meeting?

I need a few quick and easy ideas.I want some healthy tips if possible.

Answers:
Let them mail Trail Mix. I've also heard this called Friendschip Mix. Tigers love it b/c they think they're going camping any day now! ;-)

Heave each kid bring one of the following ingredients. When they get there, dump it in a big bowl, stir it up, and divvy it up into zipper bags for them.

small bag Plain M&M's
can of mixed nuts or peanuts
sesame sticks
box of raisins
3 cups of pretzel sticks
3 cups banana chips
3 cups mini Ritz Bits

POPCORN

doughnuts are always a hit... the more sugar the better

pigs in blankets

Celery with peanut butter

Trail mix, or GORP (good old raisins and peanuts).

Girl Scout Cookies!

PIZZA almost every little kid eats pizza. not too healthy but hey its a cub scout meeting. they eat healthy all during the week at school. Let them be kids.

MEXICAN TACO DIP:

1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese (softened)
1 (16 ounces) pint sour cream
1 package Taco Seasoning Mix
2 to 3 cups lettuce, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 (8 ounces) Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1 small can olives, sliced, drained
Tortilla Chips

Mix together cream cheese, sour cream and taco seasoning mix and chill overnight.

The next day smooth mixture in a pan. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion and shredded cheese and olives. Refrigerate to chill. Serve with tortilla chips.

Fruit with dip

Home made trail mix( chex cereal, raisins, pretzel sticks, cheddar goldfish, miniature marshmallows, chocolate chips, dried banana chips)

celery sticks with cheese whiz, or make bumps on a log which is celery with peanut butter and raisins on top.

ants on a log - raisins and cream cheese on celery sticks

Banana boats!

Make a slit on the bananas; add peanut butter; then add raisins to stick to peanut butter; then drizzle with honey.

If you cut bananas crossways before you start, you can get two boats per banana.

Great news - - The leftovers make great start for peanut butter, banana smoothies!

celery and peanutbutter and/or apples and caramel (veggies but sweets)

When we had our den meetings,We would get Fresh fruit, the kids loved it. and it didn't make a mess. and we would get tiny donuts.and cookies.

Snack packs of goldfish.

OMG - I was a tiger cub scout den leader - that was so much fun!

Cheese cubes with pretzels stuck through them.
Cheetos - I called them tiger cub tails!
Make your own peanut butter sandwiches - set out peanut butter, honey, jam, banana and apple slices, raisins, chocolate chips, and let them design their own sandwich - they really enjoyed that.

Design your own trail mix - put out different cereals, dried fruits, chocolate chips, nuts, pretzels, marshmallows, M & M's, gold fish crackers, animal crackers, and let them make their own tiger cub trail mix in a baggie.

Plain sugar cookies with chocolate icing and orange stripes of icing.

Good luck!

My kids always enjoyed a small cup of peanut butter to dip pretzel sticks in. You can also do it with cheese whiz and pretzel sticks. Rice Krispy Treats are a little more work but healthy and never turned down in our home. For the not so healthy snack, the ice cream cone cupcakes were a hit. Jut cook the cupcake mix in the cones. I would put sprinkles or Chocolate Chips in the bottom for added surprise. Here are a couple of different websites with a few ideas. Most are repetitive. Have fun!!!

chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwiches

turkey burgers and macroni and cheese
yogurt and muffins

Involves working, but gooooood.

Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie

(Makes 8 servings)

1 can (15 to 16 oz.) pure pumpkin puree
1/4 cup sugar
1-1/2 to 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice, depending on how "spicy" a flavor you enjoy
1 quart (4 cups) vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt, softened
1 package (9 ounces) 9-inch prepared graham cracker pie crust
Whipped topping, if desired.

Directions:

Mix the pumpkin, sugar and spice until well blended.
Quickly mix pumpkin mixture with the softened ice cream.
Pour into crumb crust and freeze, uncovered, until firm - a couple of hours.
When pie is frozen, cover with plastic wrap and then cover with freezer-quality foil or place in a freezer bag and squish out the air.
Thaw pie slightly before serving. Top with whipped topping, if desired.

Cook's Tips:

Pumpkin is a good source of beta-carotene, a nutrient that may help reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer and offers possible protection against heart disease.

If you don't have pumpkin pie spice, for EACH TEASPOON of pumpkin pie spice, you can substitute a combination of:

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
Note: If you're missing either the nutmeg OR the cloves, you can increase the amount of the other spice to 1/4 teaspoon.

Use nonfat ice cream or frozen yogurt and fat-free whipped topping for a lighter version.

Rice Krispy treats, and or make some granola, it's healthy and kids like them both.

Stick to finger foods -- you don't want to deal with utensils. Individual bags of peppridge farm goldfish are a great standby. I used to buy a huge box of goldfish and fill little zipper snack bags. or pretzels or pretzel combos. boxes of raisins or dried fruit.... at times, I've made my own combo (or gorp mix) in zipper bags... that way it is cheaper, and the kids can eat what they want out of the mix. (whatever you want -- cereal, dried fruit, pretzels, sunflower seeds, a few m&ms even....)

I stay away from anything sticky or gooey, including dips, peanut butter, or frosted cakes or cookies. there is enough going on without giving them the opportunity to put it in their hair, grind it into the carpet, or run to the bathrooms to wash their hands repeatedly.

we always tried to keep the snacks somewhat healthy, but you know when you brought oreos or donut holes they were always a bigger hit.

my favorite thing was a compromise.... bags of sweet breakfast cereal. Kix, cocoa puffs, fruit loops..... I didn't allow it for breakfast, but it is a better alternative snack to cookies because there is (some) nutritional value, if high in sugar.

make it a quick, easy to eat snack. the meeting is not about the snack, but snack is especially important if the meeting is right after school.

our 4th grade troop this year meets at 6:30pm, and we decided to do away with the snack time. the kids usually will have already eaten so don't need the snack. those kids who haven't eaten won't have their appetite ruined. it is now up to the parent to feed the child accordingly.

Oh -- avoid anything with peanut butter or nuts because there are a lot of allergies around.... also, beware of food that could pose a higher choking risk, like grapes or peanuts... these kids wiggle a lot while eating.
