A cheap way to feed 200+ people?!

Question: A cheap way to feed 200+ people!?
There's a conference going on and we need a cheap way to feed 200+ people!. My boss was thinking about a bag lunch type of thing, where we put together a sandwich/chips/brownie/drink etc!.

Any other ideas!? thank you :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Do they have any sub shops that make the REALLY big subs!?!? You could find out how many each one feeds & go from there!. Then, you could buy variety BULK bags of chips and put in a big basket for guests to consume!. Same thing with the soda's, just use a big bin with ice instead of a basket!.

Check with the local caterers, see if you could get a taco bar in there!. I work at a mexican restaurant and TRUST ME!.!. food cost on that stuff is dirt cheap, and they are filling!. It doesn't hurt to try and negotiate with them too on pricing!.!.

Best of luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hot lunch feels more substantial and it can even be cheaper than a bag lunch!. Pasta, like lasagna or casseroles, go a long way!. Throw in salad, as suggested above, and a big tub of drinks and you are all set!. Don't know where you live, but in my city, pizza places like Godfathers, Valentino's, Davincis have great cheap catering options!. Good luck! Www@FoodAQ@Com

That is the normal for all conference's!. Be different!. I would do something like that, but different!. Instead of lunch, do buffet style like smorgish board type thing!. Have a bunch of platters!.

Finger sandwhiches/Or buy already made from like subway
Chips/Dips
veg!. and fruit tray
Potato Salad/Mac!. Salad
Cheese and meat tray w/ crackers
Get a bundt cake cut into small pieces and their you go!.
As far as drinks, do BIG things of sweet/unsweet tea!. and bottled water!.
You probably can get all of that for around $300-400!. Enough for 200!.

Just provide a smorgish board of snack items, and then if they are still hungry after lunch!.!.then they will go get them something!.

What about a BBQ!? You could cook up a big heap of sausages and hamburgers!.!.!. some fresh bread!.!.!. and make up some big bowls of coleslaw! Barbeques are always a great way to feel a LOT of people which is why they have them at sporting venues, markets, fundraisers etc!.
Some people may say that a BBQ is a bit casual for a conference but for $4 you aren't going to do much better!.!.!. and you can always fancy it up with nice plates or pretty paper napkins!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You do not get much for 4 bucks a person!.
Why not a large assorted of appetizers on large trays , just having a few people dressed up as waiters with a white towel over their arm while holding the trays and offer the guests a little something to eat!.
This will look more professional than serving egg sandwiches or a pile of spaghetti !!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Go to a wholesale club like B!.J's, Sam's or Cotsco! And buy in bulk!. You save money that way! Pasta is cheap with a salad! The wholesale club sells a good sheet cake for like $20-25!.00!. And it's good and big!
They sell or do platters for large groups! You can check out the prices and do a cold cut platter or pizzas! I have seen them!
GOOD LUCK!

A Cheap way is to have it catered, some places can cater that many people for less the $5!.00 per person!. On of the cheapest things to cater is Fried Chicken w/ sides!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It may be cheaper to supply the fixings and let the people put together their own sandwiches!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

if you put together a bag lunch, the people eating wont have a choice of what they are getting, and even if you make, say half ham sandwiches, half turkey, what if everyone seems to want turkey and the ones with ham are just out of luck!?
I recommend doing a fruit tray, a veggie tray, and a cheese and cracker tray!.
This is much less expensive than you are thinking, because you are not going to buy premade trays!. You are going to buy the fruit, veggies, and blocks of cheese and cut them into bite size pieces!.
Fruit tray could have grapes, whole oranges and peaches, strawberries, pineapple chunks, etc!.
Veggie tray could have baby carrots, brocolli spears, grape tomatos, etc!.
Cheese tray- buy a large block of a few different kind of cheeses, cut into small cubes and surround tray with a few different kinds of crackers!.
Have small plates and toothpicks, and let everyone pick out what they want, and they dont have to take anything they dont want and it be wated!.
You could also have a dessert tray with some cheap store bought cookies and brownies!.

If you have a Quizno's subs in your area or a place similar, they are really good to have supply sandwiches because they will bring a variety of about 8 different kinds, including vegetarian friendly, and they also bring single serving bags of chips and cookies!. They provide all the condiments on the side, and plenty of napkins!. I used to manage one and the catering packages were very reasonably priced, and believe it or not they will give you an extra percentage off (15-20%) if you ask for it, and tell them that the final price would be the deciding factor of you purchasing from them or another sub shop!.

I don't know if you have "Crispers" in your area, but they offer large salad trays that feed about 30 people, and also all different types of fresh sandwiches and wraps, cut into smaller pieces so everyone can get a little of everything!.
Another idea is to buy a few Xtra large pizzas, and several bags of salad mix !. Just set the pizzas out like you normally would, but make up big bowls of salad mix with tongs to serve, and have smaller bowls around them with thigns such as shredded cheese, tomatoes, onions, olives, cucumbers, etc!. and also choices of dressings!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
