What "theme" do I do for an under-creative bunch of people at a potluck?!

Question: What "theme" do I do for an under-creative bunch of people at a potluck!?
At my work we have a lunch once a month for about 16 people!. There are usually 3-4 planning each monthly lunch!. Other groups do not do a "theme" really, but I find that in a group such as ours (mostly accounting) it peps it up a bit!. We've done this for almost a year now and I'm running out of ideas for a cute theme!. We've done potato bar, salad bar, picnic, western, tacos, chili, breakfast for lunch, and the typical hamburgers and hot dogs!.

The other problem is, one of the women helping me this month is concerned about her friend not liking what we make (because she is the most picky eater I've ever seen in my life!) So every time I suggest something, she says "hmmm!.!.!.well Jane doesn't really like that!."

I was thinking of a Halloween theme of "Ghoul-ash", but she snarled her nose at that already!.!.!.seriously!.!.you can't please everyone!. And she's trying to! Help! : )Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I love the Halloween idea, or the Fall Harvest idea that someone said!.
maybe a country as your theme like Italian Picnic, Mexican Fiesta, German Decent!.!.!.!.!.anything relating to one type of cuisine!. Or maybe a "Mini Lunch Party" all appetizer sized foods like mini burgers, mini egg rolls, etc!.
as far as the lady trying to please Miss Picky Eater!.!.!.!.screw her!. I hate those picky people that expect people to bend over backwards to accommodate their ridiculous expectations!. As far as getting around the one in your group planning- do a vote!. make a list of three ideas and each person in your group votes on the one they like best and that's it- you can't please everyone!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yesterday I did a "pasta and salad" lunch for friends, and asked them to bring either one of them (and they confirmed what they were bringing, so we did not end with too much salad and no pasta)!.
You can do also a "do your own sandwich or baguette" thing!.
And regarding the picky eater, sorry, but you can only accomodate to an extent!. Ask her politely to bring her own food, IF she has real food constraints, otherwise, SHE must accomodate, not the rest of you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't really know why you have to have a 'theme' - but if you must!.!.!.

Just have a Halloween theme, and let everyone bring something fall/pumpkin centered!. Another thought - when she turns her nose up at your suggestions, ask her "Well what suggestions do you have!?"!. As for future themes!.!.!.

Ethnic themes work well for potlucks - Chinese, Italian, mexican, Thai, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think a halloween theme or a autumn harvest would make a good theme!. Ask the women who keeps complaining what she suggests and try to incorporate some of her ideas into the lunch!. but, if she comes up with nothing then I say just go along with the ideas of you and other people planning the lunchWww@FoodAQ@Com

AUTUMN HARVEST would be good: apples, cranberries, pumpkins, corn!. With a variety of food, there should be something that everyone will like!. Since Jane is just one person out of 16, she can just bring a dish that she WILL eat - I wouldn't plan around HER eating habitsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Hmm!.!.!.this is difficult!. I would suggest going with a SCHLEP theme!. You know for all the freeloading whiney-*** people who want a free lunch and then tend to complain about it when they don't have something that they want!. Maybe put some nuts in a bowl with some sides of Beer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We have been having football tailgate parties at work!. Just fix your favorite football foods and enjoy!. Chili, brats, sausage, chips, stew what ever you like!. Enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe a pirate theme or an 80's theme to relive the good ole' fashion nostalgia!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try any of the good themes below!Www@FoodAQ@Com

How about a luau/tropical!? Grilled Pineapple, Chicken Skewers, Ham Sandwiches, King's Hawaiian Rolls, Salad with Mango or anything tropical!.!.!.

You could do an italian theme!.!.!.different kinds of Pasta (spagetti, angel hair, bow tie), different kinds of sauces (marinara, alfredo, mushroom), different kinds of meats (sausage, hamburger, meatballs) that way everyone can make their own!.!.!.throw in garlic bread and cesar salad

Keep in mind that you can't please everyone!.!.!.probably something that "Jane" likes, three people will dislike!. Just try to go with something that the majority will like!.!.!.or make Jane come up with the idea!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't let just one picky eater spoil it for the rest of you! If your friend is worried that Jane won't like what is on offer then she can make and bring something that Jane likes as can Jane!. The Ghoulash sounds fun but how about a spicy theme, keep it on the mild side to suit the majority of tastes (lots of countries have spicy food, lots to choose from)!. Build your own pizza or sandwich (everybody brings in their favourite pizza toppings or sandwich fillings)!. Bring in your specialty (everybody makes one dish that they're REALLY good at making)Www@FoodAQ@Com
