What's an inventive way to decorate a dinner party table?!

Question:

What's an inventive way to decorate a dinner party table?

Answers:
Waterproof wallpaper

Glitter!

flower petals and fir-cones

Dining cloth made from sewn together strips of bacon.

If you've got a theme (like the food is all Italian or Indian) try to decorate the table the same. Use things you've got around the house - stick with one/two colour/s. If it's a special occasion like a birthday, how about buying that confetti stuff with age/writing? Have fun! Perhaps if you've got kids they could help you?

Choose a nice centre piece to match the occasion.... use mirror tiles in the middle of the table with tea lights to reflect the light

my wife once went to the thrift store and got six place settings that were all different ,everything from the napkin holders to the glasses in all the colors of the rainbow and our guests drew colored paperclips from a box to find where we all sat. It was a big hit!

I like using small dishes with floating candles in them, everyone looks better by candle light!

Get a mombasa net and hang it from the chandelier or ceiling....put bowls of water in the center and put in floating candles

1) Sparkling glassware and plates, spotless well ironed tablecloth, shining cutlery, great food and drink.

2) If you want more, pick a theme. Seasonal themes work better because people are in mood and accesories are easily available. You can do the opposite, i.e. a beach party in the middle of the winter, but it is more difficult to organize.

In my environment, I would choose a Christmas topic and I would use Chrismas flowers and decorations. Red and green colors. Scattered Chrismas balls over the table. Napkins tied with Christmas ribbons, and that sort of thing.

What would it be in yours?

3) Remember the centerpiece should be low, so guests can see each other and talk to each other through the table.

Use Winter as your subject.

A table covered with a white cloth, place settings of white, clear glasses and if possible cutlery with transparent handles or white handles.

A centre piece of red candles floating in water with clear-glass stones twinkling through the water down the middle of the table pearls with your wine bottles standing in the centre of them.

Place names on white card in the shape of snowflakes.
If you have waiter/waitress have them dressed as elves!

Snow flakes for winter, silk leaves for fall... mixed blossoms for spring and caldles for summer...

sprinkle them all around a candle center piece with an accented color. its pretty

Pick a theme!!!

I always sprinkle a little glitter, and put a nice vase of flowers in the center of the table!

TOP SPOT!

Do everything in black. Make a change from the usual red or green.

I was thinking about this just this morning! And i thought of Origami (paper folding! not sure if thats spelt right!). well its inventive anyway! but probably a bit tricky; you could try it anyway, i will!

Dress each individual place setting as a different vegetable a la "Ready Steady Cook"

with stool samples taken from all the people who will be eating at it. Failing that, with dog excrement.

Use a "grass" cloth on the table and make it look as though it's going to be a picnic meal

Use simple cutlery like white plates and white table cloth, then spice everything up with luxurious accessories like gold napkins with red ribbons tied around them.

Decorate the table with red and gold candles and put hand-decorated name settings written in caligraphy on each plate.

Red chair covers with gold ties would inject some luxury and colour to the table, or simply put soft cushions on each chair (you'll be eating for a while so want to be comfortable).

Fresh flowers and a table centre piece always finishes the christams table off nicely.

use different coloured paint samples to decorate the table and see how excited your guests get when they find that their sleeves match the table!!!

old newspapers and bits of wood from skips

string plates and rubber cutlery

use clock springs and alarm bells as a centre piece

ooooh - I know - serve soup on flat plates.... see how inventive your guests get then!!!

white table cloth , fruit, nuts, colour a few of the big nut gold and place nuts around the out side of fruit you could also crystallise a few of the fruit

well starting with a colorful tablecloth, I always like the colorful glass marbles in a bowl. You can fill it up with water and then add floating candles to give light. You can use confetti or glitter to sprinkles around the table. Nice seasonal flowers as a centerpiece is always nice.

Lots of old photos with a plastic sheet over them down the centre of the table - no covering the bikinis with wine glasses- what conversation!!!

cut it open from one end to the other, pull every last piece of it out and throw it all over the table.

Pick a theme, stick with 2 -3 colours max, then use flowers, leaves, baubles, candles.

All white linen, white candles in crystal candlesticks, silver rimmed glasses, and a scattering of white feathers and silver sprinkles. Dont forget the chairs!! Tie white muslin around the chair back and decorate with silver and white accessories.

I use mini cakes for place cards - just ice the persons name on. I also make place mats out of A4 sized photographs which I have laminated - for Christmas ones have taken a photo of my nephews with their santa hats on.
