What are some good ideas for wedding reception food?!

Question:

What are some good ideas for wedding reception food?

Answers:
Atttended two weddings recently, both relatives. One couple paid for their own wedding and the other was paid for by the bride's parents. Couple A (less $ to spend) Couple B (parent's paid)

Couple A had a couple of good appetizers passed before dinner Bacon wrapped scallops and one other I can't recall. One drink choice, Martinis, served three ways and non-alcoholic variety. Dinner was sit down with no choice. Salad,Pork tenderloin with a cherry sauce, red potatoes and a fresh vegetable. There was a vegetarian plate served if requested. Cake and coffee and a beautiful candy bar.

Couple B had more appetizers (not as good, quantity rather than quality) and buffet style, chicken, fish, pasta, roast; once again, quantity versus quality. Open bar.

Couple A's wedding was done with very little money and a whole lot of style, only 60 guests. Couple B's wedding was like a million other weddings.

I would suggest a sit-down dinner (place cards, please) with a beef (possibly chicken) or seafood choice.....

How about Indian food? Chicken Tikka Masala.

Rice, Salad, Chicken, Salmon and pasta with vegetables (for the vegetarians) are all good ideas of what you can serve.

Are you looking for heavy horsdourves?
There is so much you can do for a wedding. I suggest passing a few items until the bridal party is finished with the pictures, then opening up the REAL food.
mashed potato bars are extremely popular
shrimp and grit station (chef attended)
Caesar salad bars are in
carved beef tenderloin
gotta have the fruit and cheese
chocolate fountain
mini crab cakes
some kind of satay
shrimp cocktail in an ice carving
There are countless things you can do. I would be here for hours giving you ideas. It all comes down to what you like. Simple as that!!!

Appetizers: Stuffed mushrooms (crab stuffing), cheese and ham, cocktail shrimp.

Salad: Caesars salad

Main Course:
Mozzarella Chicken with long grain rice and steamed vegetables.

The last wedding i went to the couple had the Chinese restaurant they first met at cater the event. It was great, egg rolls, crab Rangoon's, sweet sour / cashew chicken. It was very informal, and it allowed people to mix and mingle with out alot of expense. Of course if your looking to have a formal event this would be sort of inappropriate.

Swedish meatballs
Fried Chicken
Roast Turkey
Roast Beef
Baked Macaroni and Cheese
Seafood Salad
Pasta Salad
Potato Salad

My favorite reception type of food idea was from Giada DeLaurentis' show "Behind the Bash". I t was the episode of the car dealer wedding, , but the point is they made a whole bunch of "mini" comfort foods for the apps., but dressed them up to make them more elegant. Like mini burgers that were maybe the size of half dollars. Mini portions of mac and cheese and they were served in mini edible bowls made with melted cheese. I forget all the ideas, but if you go to

That is the link.

How about stuffed chicken breast, Ham, Green beans with garlic and bacon, Mashed Potatos, and a salad bar

The last wedding I went to was for my brother in law second marriage. He had a catering service done with both hot and cold buffet which you could pick and choose from. Everything from soups, salads, chicken, lasagna, you name it they pretty much had it There was also some ethic choices as well as one was able to try it. Also a really nice desert buffet as well.

The wedding cake and the groom cake and punch and coffee and tea and finger foods might be nice, different type nuts and small candies, and after dinner mints,
