Food question...what goes with?!

Question:

Food question...what goes with?

i'm having some friends over for dinner this wed night and i'm making homemade beef stroganoff. i'm wondering what vegetable would go with that? i was thinking about serving peas. and what would be good to drink? wine? we usually just have the stroganoff by itself and drink milk, lol. i will also be serving crescent rolls with the dinner...they seem to go well with it. any suggestions you have would be great!

Answers:
I would serve carrots (either steamed or boiled - steamed is better). Also, you may want to add some creamed spinach if you're into that as well as some steamed long grain rice.

I would offer a hearty red (cabernet) or vodka drinks (Russian, afterall) :) I'd prefer the red.

Sounds like SOMEBODY'S getting off routine - that's very cute Stroganoff with milk!!! Adorable!

Have fun, sweetie!!!

I love baby carrots, and they go well with beef.
As for the drink, probably a red wine, but if you like milk, you can offer that as well.
Crescent rolls, yummy! Can I come too? LOL

A nice dinner salad. Offer up a few choices of salad dressing, ie: Ranch, French, Italian are the basics.

Egg noodles with the beef stroganoff. As far as vegetables sweet peas or sweet carrots are fine. You would want a sweet tasting vegetable to compliment the heavy cream used to make beef stroganoff. As far as wine, a heavy white wine like a pinot gregio, or a light red wine like cabinet sauvignon..

Beef stroganoff?

In my life I have never had people over and made beef stroganoff...are you using campbells cream of mushroom soup with your recipe?

If you are...stop right now and make something else.

I think beef stroganoff is the most over made BAD dish in the States by a large margin. Most people and recipes are absolutely horrible.

I love the idea of steamed baby carrots with butter - the colour would really complement the dish. A robst red wine (for beef) would be really good - if you don't want wine - how about just nice icy bottled waters?

Salad would be great!

A great garden salad and as a side dish red cabbage would be great. For the wine I recommend a red wine called Shiraz, especially a brand called Woop Woop Shiraz from Australia. It is awseome!

Corn with a bit of red pimento would be a beautiful accent. And with any luck, you are making a nice bit of ternderloin with onion and mushroom. I have an excellent recipe, a little bit labor intensive but worth it. It has sour cream in it and you add it at the end.

I wouldn't serve the rolls (with the noodles too many starches). I would roast some asparagus with olive oil and s&p. Or like others have said - a salad.

"Mum" is the word! Just like "Mum"'s comment, don't put too much starch on the table: Just serve with greenery like a leafy salad and asparagus not potatoes or carrots... I've never heard that you put carrots when having stroganoff Just sprinkle your main dish with some parsley!

Try this.

Tomato Salad
1 lb fresh tomatoes
1 sweet onion, thinly sliced
minced garlic
parsley, to taste
salt and pepper, to taste
extra virgin olive oil
white wine vinegar

Slice the tomatoes, add some sliced onions and put it in an oil/vinegar sauce.
Add some garlic, parsley, salt and pepper.
Serve chilled.
This is really a pretty salad. Serve in individual plates.

To Drink, Gewurztraminer

Baby peas with sauteed mushrooms and onion sounds good. Opt for an wine like a Cotes Du Rhone or if you want to do something from California try Red Truck (basically the CA version of a Nothern Rhone style of red wine). Have a great party!

Peas would be a good choice for two reasons : First, the color would make a beautiful contrast with the beef Strognoff. Second, the sweetness of simply prepared peas would balance the richness of the rich beef dish. Most people serve this dish with wide egg noodles, which is a good choice and the crescent rolls are good for anybody that wants to get every last drop of the sauce. To complete the balance of colors, you might want to consider a few cherry tomatoes or slices of tomato.

And, ignore OMO. Beef Stroganoff can be an excellent dish to enjoy with friends.
