How do I cook Spaghetti Squash?!

Question:

How do I cook Spaghetti Squash?

Answers:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Slide the squash in half lengthwise, and remove seeds. Place spaghetti squash cut sides down on the prepared baking sheet, and bake 30 minutes, or until a sharp knife can be inserted with only a little resistance. Remove squash from oven, and set aside to cool enough to be easily handled. Use a large spoon to scoop the stringy pulp from the squash.

Cut in half, scoop out seeds, (may still be stringy, that's OK), add some butter and cover with microwave cling wrap and microwave on high for 9 minutes. Remove and scoop into a bowl. I like a little garlic powder and butter . Enjoy

I usually follow the directions on the sticker they put right on the squash in the grocery store. Very carefully cut the squash in half lengthwise, with a spoon scoop out all the seeds. Fill a baking pan, big enough to hold both squash halves, with a little water. Put the squash in the pan cut side down. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, turn the squash over cut side up and bake for another 30 minutes. Squash should be fork tender. Then to serve, just take a fork and scrape it through the squash flesh, it will break up into "spagetti" like threads.

I toss it with a little olive oil, fresh herbs, salt and pepper, or top it with homemade marinara sauce.

It's really good.

Cut it in half clean out seeds and put butter, nutmeg and cover with foil and stick it in oven along with your pot roast .Serve with toss salad and wine, and hot steak rolls,

COOKING SPAGHETTI SQUASH

CONVENTIONAL OVEN
Pierce the shell of one whole spaghetti squash. Bake uncovered at 350°F for 45 minutes. Turn squash over and continue to bake until shell gives to pressure, 15 to 45 minutes. Cut in half and remove seeds. Remove the spaghetti like strands with a fork.

MICROWAVE
Cut one spaghetti squash lengthwise and remove the seeds. Place the halves cut side up on a non-metallic baking dish. Microwave on high (100%) for 10 to 12 minutes. Rotate each piece 1/2 turn after 5 minutes. Let stand after cooking for another 5 minutes. The shell should give to pressure. Remove the spaghetti like strands with a fork.

BOIL
Place halves cut side down in pot with 3 inches of water. Bring water to a boil and cook for 20 minutes or until squash is tender. Remove the spaghetti like strands with a fork.

Use the squash spaghetti strands as you would use cooked pasta spaghetti. Serve it hot tossed with your favorite pasta sauce and grated Parmesan cheese.

-----------
Spaghetti Squash with Parmesan Cheese
Serving Size : 6

One 4 to 5 pound spaghetti squash
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cloves minced garlic
3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon white pepper (optional)
1 tablespoon minced fresh basil or parsley
Additional parmesan cheese for passing

Pierce squash in several places with a long-tined fork or metal skewer. Place on baking pan and bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Using potholders, squeeze squash to test for doneness. It is ready when it gives slightly under pressure. Remove and cool.

Heat a saucepan over heat, pour in olive oil. Add garlic and cook until tender but not browned for about 5 minutes.

When squash is cool enough to handle, cut in half lengthwise and scoop out seeds and stringy portions. Using a fork, pull pulp from the shell in long strands and add them to the warm garlic oil.

Toss squash strands gently with pepper, salt and cheese. Pour into a serving bowl and garnish with basil or parsley. Serve immediately. Pass additional cheese at the table.

Variations
Strains of cooked spaghetti squash can be tossed with your favorite marinara sauce, mushroom sauce or pesto. The empty shell halves are nice to use as a serving bowl.

It doesn't have to be a huge pain...Cut it in 1/2 lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, put it in the microwave, cut side down. Cook on high 7-10 minutes, or until you can poke the skin with a fork easily. When it's cooked, scoop the insides out with a fork, stir in butter, salt & pepper, and a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese if you like, but it's fine without. YUMMY!

I've found the best recipe for Spaghetti Squash is the following:

1) Insert entire squash into plastic bag.
2) Insert bag w/ squash into garbage can
3) Try acorn or buttenut squash!
