Im throwing an 80s themed birthday party, need ideas?!
My husband is turning 40 and absolutely LOVES 80's music!. We are going to have big speakers with music playing but I need more ideas!. Its going to be outside in the country so we can get away with pretty much anything!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

O!.K!.!.!. idea's: Breakdancing contest!.!. have era inspired prizes! Biggest hair, Tightest pants, Best Madonna, Best Don Johnson, Best Axle Rose!. If you mention these types of prize categories in your invitiations, it will REALLY get people's minds running! How fun!.!. I want to come :)
Your going to have to have the music!.!. if you can get video's GREAT, if not cd's will work great!. You could also just have movies playing in the background like Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, St!. Elmo's fire, etc!.!. consider renting a karaoke machine!.

I have an 80s party every year for me and my girl friends- we have so much fun! you MUST have everyone dress up for the party! That is the best part seeing what everyone comes up with to wear- you won't stop laughing! I put on my invites "Best dressed gets a special prize" that way everyone dresses up- I just give a good 80s movie as the prize!. give everyone a name tag and later in the night ask everyone to place their vote in a box then calculate the totals!.
have your hubby make a mix CD of all his fav 80s songs and burn a bunch of them and give them out as party favors (I'm doing that for my upcoming 30th Karaoke party) make a cover with a funny picture of him in the 80s and saying something like Rick's Totally Awesome 80's Hits! you can also take that same picture and have a picture cake made for the birthday cake!. maybe use that picture on everything- invites, cake, blown up posters for around the party area and all over as decorations!
pick up a 80s trivia game- Trivial Pursuit has an 80s edition and there are lots more out there, those are fun to play!.

It definitely should be a costume party as dressing up for that would be so much fun!. Karaoke always works well and once everyone gets over their shyness it really gets things going!. also think of someone your husband particularly admires from the eighties and try to recreate that movie, place, or feeling somehow!. I say pick a year, google or imdb movies from that year and let the movies be your guide!. also, you may want to take into account what age you and your husband were during that year!. For example, if you pick 1988 and you were in college, make everything 1988 college student appropriate!. Does that make sense!?
If you just want to meld every thing together, I say go for a Flashdance, Silver Spoons, Weird Science party! Or since you're going to be in the country you could maybe do a totally Footloose themed party!.
A lot of the things that were cool about the 80s are going to be difficult for a "barn party" (that's what we used to call them) b/c of hay and soft ground!. Like, you can't walk in hot pink pumps!. :o(!.
Whatever it is, you've gotta try to get people talking, like, totally 80s!. Maybe you can make that a fun game (or drinking game)!. Anyone caught like not totally being bitchin or tubular like totally has to totally take a shot! Ooh, 80s drinks! I spent all of the 80s in elementary school and middle school but I remember the drinks that were famous from Home Box Office movies we stayed up late to watch: Tequila Sunrise, Sex on the Beach, Screaming Orgasm!. And even if you don't want to play drinking games you can make that into a fun prize game!. Or put together some fun 80s trivia!.
also, it might be a little late but maybe you can get some video tapes (LOL) of old shows and loop them on TVs set up all around the barn!?
