Question:

What do i get for a host gift?

a good friend from high school and her husband are hosting a Christmas party. most of the people there will be college students. i've never met her husband. what do i get them for a host gift?

Answers:
A Poinsetta, a nice candle and holder or warmer. They could be allergic to some type of food, but if youwant to go that route, I would suggest a cheese gift package or candy tower.

It's always appropriate to bring something to eat or drink... I often go with a bottle of wine as an old standby. Your hosts may choose to open it for the party, or enjoy later. If your hosts aren't wine drinkers, then some Christmas cookies or other decadent sweets would be nice. Or, since it is a Christmas party, you could bring a nice ornament for their tree...

There are so many things to choose from you can go with candles, potpourri, a wreath, a special holiday decoration, a nice basket of fruit, a bottle of wine, alcohol is always nice, a store platter, they have tons of them in most stores, some cookies or a cake. I always try to make it something that the host or hostess has not thought of. Once I brought gifts to hand out to the guests. I'm sure whatever you bring will be appreciated.

wine is always nice, and classy too

a nice bottle of wine is always good; don't expect them to open it that night

a little set of cheese spreaders (you can find them at any kitchenware store)

Champagne, or Red/White wine. It's tradition.

Wine is always appropriate. Bring two though and put it in a wine bag.

A set of crystal wine/champagne glasses and a bottle of good wine/champagne.
OR
A set of crystal brandy snifters an a bottle of Cognac.

Wrap them up festively with red bows.

Since it is a Christmas party, maybe a beautiful ornament. It will always remind them of you and the friendship. A bouquet of flowers or a pointsetta is always a good stand-by.
Have fun and Merry Christmas!

Chocolates are allways well received, especiallly something exclusive, like this:

Fruit basket, flowers, wine, etc...

Why not make her a basket of treats she and her hubby can enjoy the next morning: a small bag of gourmet or flavored coffee or a selection of teas, a couple of holiday themed mugs, a loaf of banana bread or something similar, a nice jar of jam or preserves.

I like to give kissing balls as a hostess gift. You can probably get one premade in the holiday section of a store. It's an original gift that will not only let them know you were thinking of them, but it can add a bit of entertainment to a party!

Make up a basket and in it put a Christmas book, two mugs, gourmet hot chocolate, marshmallows, and biscotti.....then wrap the whole thing in clear film and put on a bow with cinnamon and peppermint sticks stuck in it

A bottle of wine, or a nice candle, or a plant (like a poinsettia or one of those little evergreen trees) would be nice.

Or - you could go with a little candy dish filled with candy.

Or you could bring a really pretty, special ornament for the couple.

A nice bottle of wine in a wine bag
A great smelling candle
a basket of fruit
a plant, or flowers in a vase
easy to make recipes on recipe cards
a board game
Christmas ornament from your home town
just the your "thoughtfulness" is also very nice!
