Entertaining In-Laws!!?!

Question:

Entertaining In-Laws!!?

Christmas lunch is at my house this year and none of my family will be here. How do I impress the In-Laws on a low buget without looking cheap. I really want to impress because i am the 'new kid on the block'. Any hints and recipes would be greatly appreciated!!

So just you, the hubby and in-laws huh? Have fun with that one! Hopefully all will go smoothly - don't go overboard. Since it's such a small gathering, why not do two cornish hens? They are very tender and then you don't have tons of left overs. They aren't too expensive either as I recall. Make mashed potatoes, green beans and a pie. You don't have to be extravagant to have a nice meal.

i always made a small ham, with mashed potatoes and veggies. it all depends on what the family likes. make sure to get your husband to give you the goods on his family so you don't make something they won't or cant eat. also it is important for them to know that you are taking care of their son, so maybe do a little extra cleaning before they get there. trust me i made that mistake once. i never knew you could get grilled for leaving a few dishes in the sink. :) good luck

First of all, it would be good to find out if they have any problems or dislikes of certain foods. Imagine making a lovely mushroom quiche and finding out one of them is allergic to mushrooms! Making them something you know they love will always earn you extra points. Good advice from all above... don’t go overboard. You don't want to intimidate your mother-in-law. They always love to feel that they have something to teach you... even if you already know how to make it.

Good luck!
