Holiday food idea?!
Holiday food idea?
We are flying home for Christmas and will not get in until late Christmas Eve. Given that most stores will be closed on Christmas day, what is a good food item that I can pack and bring with me to contribute to a potluck Christmas dinner? This would imply no refrigeration, travels well in luggage, etc. I'm looking for an idea other than a bottle of wine- something creative or unique.
Answers:
Make some homemade candy. You can contribute to the most important part of the meal...Dessert. Yummy.
some breads..cranberry, or pumpkin. wrap in colorful saran wrap..tie with a ribbon,..cookies or fudge, pack them in an airtight container..(tupperware..cookie tin etc.)
You could bring a gormet gift basket filled with smoked meats/ cheeses for an appetizer tray... (hickory farms for example)
FRUITCAKE !!
Christmas cookies, Rumballs, Marizapan treats, Stollen, Some kind of fancy bread? ummm most stuff need refrideration or will get damaged by luggage handlers.
jello and stuff like that
A Can of Ham.
You can get any thing you like, just call the local WalMart and order it, charge it on your bank card, and have someone pick it up. They are open christmas eve and day, although some stores will have shortened hours. WalMarts have pretty good baked goods and a very good selection at the deli. They'll even work with you to set it all up on a tray looking nice and ready to serve.I like cocktail weenies in BBQ sauce on fancy toothpicks. No weenie jokes here, I just like em. Cocktail weenies that is... not re...oh never mind.
Party on!
