Christmas breakfast......?

im havin my mother in law and her partner over for christmas morning breakfast, at lunch we are going our seperate ways and having big lunches elsewhere.. i need some cheap ideas for breakfast.. i was thinking fruit salad and or pancakes... anyone got any unusual ideas?

Try a breakfast quiche... quick and easy

1 pastry shell
1 1/2 c. half & half
4 eggs
1 c. shredded cheese
1 tbsp. flour
1/4 c. sliced green onion
1 tsp. dried parsley
Pinch of nutmeg
Salt & pepper
5 slices bacon
5 links of sausages

Put pastry shell in pan. Mix items 4-9 together. Pour over shell. Whisk eggs and half & half. Pour over cheese mixture. Bake 35 minutes at 375 degrees. Put bacon and sausage on top. Bake 10 more minutes.

Miso soup, soba (buckwheat noodles in an oriental broth), hot green tea, hot white rice, kamoboko (fishcake), nori (seaweed), it's the typical Japanese breakfast.

Definitely go continental breakfast on this. Get some bagels, cream cheese, maybe flavored. And yes, fruit. Keep it lite. also several choices for beverages. Nothing wrong with some ham slices with some cheese chunks. And Maybe a small platter of fluffy scrambled eggs. These are just cheap suggestions. But, don't forget the cinnamon rolls!

get them some toast. In spore we are famous for toast. Easy to made, cheap and most important it taste HEAVENLY!!
What u need
1) Bread ( white )
2) "Kaya" (coconut with pandan leaf jam)
3) Butter

* IF u CANNOT find Kaya, REPLACE it with plain SUGAR.

Method:

-Cut butter into think slices abt 0.3cm thick.
(careful, do not melt/ soft butter, have to be in slices.)
-Keep sliced butter in fridge to keep it hard.
-Remove skind from the bread (only the soft part)
-Carefully cut it into thin slices of two (means cut half across)
-Toast the bread in the toaster or... grill until both side are crispy.
- Then, faster place the sliced butter and sprinkle moderate sugar on the butter, sandwich with another slice of toast.

Serve .
U will experience a diff way of eating toast as the butter will slightly melt due to the toast is still hot. Butter melt in ur mouth together with abit of sweetness of sugar. Try it!

How about a strata?

This dish is great for brunch parties or holiday gatherings because it can be put together the night before. Pop it in the oven in the morning, and let it cook while you set the table and prepare a simple breakfast salad of fresh fruit and yogurt.

Substitute a rustic herbed bread for the plain bread, or peas for the asparagus. Add a grating of fresh lemon zest or nutmeg to the egg mixture for a twist.

Swiss Ham Breakfast Strata
8 oz. diced ham (about 1 ? cups)
1/3cup chopped onion
6 oz. fresh asparagus, cut into ?-inch pieces (about 1 ? cups)
6 cups cubed French or Italian bread, divided
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh thyme, divided
4 eggs
2 ? cups low-fat milk
Salt and pepper to taste
?cup grated Swiss cheese

Lightly coat the inside of a 2-quart covered baking dish with butter or cooking spray; set aside. Lightly coat a frying pan with cooking spray; over medium heat, cook the ham and onion until ham is lightly browned and onion is translucent, about 8 minutes. Transfer to a small dish and set aside. In the same pan, saute the asparagus until bright green and crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Set aside.

Cover the bottom of the baking dish with bread cubes (use about 2 to 2 ? cups). Sprinkle half the asparagus and 1 teaspoon thyme over the bread. Top with another 1 ? cups bread cubes. Sprinkle with all the ham mixture and about 1 teaspoon thyme. Top with 1 ? cups bread cubes. Sprinkle with remaining asparagus and thyme. Top with remaining bread cubes.

In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs and milk until blended. Season with salt and pepper and slowly pour over the casserole, taking care to wet each bread cube on the top layer. Sprinkle the top with the grated cheese. Cover and chill at least 3 hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake the casserole, uncovered, for 1 hour, or until the top is browned and the center is set. Remove the strata from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serves 6.

Here's a receipe that i've done for the past 3 years and everyone loves it.
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease medium baking dish.
Heat oil (2 tablespoon) in skillet. add green pepper (1) and onion (1), cook until tender about 5 min.
Line prepared baking dish with bread (6 slice buttered). Top with onion and peppers. Spread sausage (1 pound cooked & drained) evenly over onions.
Beat eggs (6), half-and-half cream (1 pint), dry mustard (1 teasp.) and salt (1 teasp.). Pour over sausage.
Sprinkle cheddar cheese (3 cups) over top. Bake until eggs are set, about 40 min.

This is the original receipe. I prefer to use ham instead of sausage and 35% cream intead of half-and-half.

Toast with Ham, Coffe, Tea - that's enough

try french toast with Carmel and bananas with walnuts{ if no ones allergic] IF not try crepes you can buy the crepes already made and put canned fruit in them,or chocolate with bananas, or cream cheese, put whipped topping on top and it looks wonderful too... Hope this helps.

They both sound good. Since it will likely be a busy day you don't want to spend your morning cooking and cleaning. I suggest you keep it simple. Maybe get some bagels. French toast and bacon is pretty simple and doesn't require much time or clean up.

a light breakfast like fruit is a great idea. If you are getting a big lunch somewhere else you don't want to be full before you get there.

This receipe is always a hit with guest.

Breakfast strudel

1 box of puff pastry dough
2 T. unsalted butter
1 cup frozen cubed hash brown potatoes
1 cup red or green bell peppers, seeded, diced
1/2 cup onion diced
1 cup smoked ham, diced
11 eggs
2 T. minced fresh chives
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
2. T. orange juice
1 egg
1 T.water
2 T. parmesan cheese, shredded

Preheat over to 400
Thaw pastry acording ot package directions, about 30 minutes.
Melt butter in alarge nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add potatoes and saute 5 minutes. Stir in bell pepper and onion; saute 3 minutes then add ham.
Whisk eggs and chives together. Add them to the pan and scramble just until set. Season with salt and pepper to taste; offe heat, stir in cream cheese and juice until blended. Refrigerate eggs while whorking with the pastry. Unfold a pasty sheet on a work surface that's been lightly dusted with flour. Roll pastry lengthwise to 12/10", then transfer a peice of parchment cut to fit baking sheet. Trim pastry, fill with half the egg mixture, and braid the dough across the egg mixture. Repeat with remaining pasty and egg filling. LIft parchment and struedel onto baking sheets.
Combine the remaining egg and water; brush over top of strudels. Sprinkle with cheese and bake 20-30 minutes, or until golden. Let coll 5 minutes before slicing.

** I don't care for eggs that much so I use less eggs and add additional ham. Hope you enjoy!

I always fix a keish. It is really good. And you can put in thier whatever ure heart contents. Here is the easy way to fix it.
You wil need a casserole pan and have it greased down with cookin spary or either butter. Butter makes it taste better in my oppion but that is just mine.
You will need 8 eggs. Beat them up with a wisk or a mixer which ever you prefer. And then add whatever you would like I add chesse and crumbled bacon and sausage and ham and some bell pepers and onions. And then after it is all mixed togather just pour it into that greased casserole dish. And bake at 350 degress for about 30 to 40 minutues should be golden brown and the eggs not jiggle anymore should be firm to the touch. Take it out add a little more chesse on top and wrap with tinfoil and set it out. I also serve that with biscuts. And some fresh squezzed orange juice. It is really simple and really good.

Well I'm from the Trinidad & a beautiful & traditional Christmas morning breakfast for me & my family would be a nice Ham/Turkey sandwich made with freshly baked homade bread, with pastels ( its similar to beef patties, but with raisens, olives & well seasoned ground beef) & maybe a decorated hardboiled egg. And you can add a nice salad to make it look pretty. Together with Sorrel juice, which is the traditional juice in my country for Christmas. Its an Exotic idea that will surprise them, take them to the Caribbean. Its the best! Have a good one....

try a fritata - eggs, milk, cheddar cheese, green onion, bacon and melted butter - whisk all ingredients together and put in baking dish, cook 30 minutes - very yummy and easy to make.
6 eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 Tbls melted butter
1/4 cup green onion
1/3 cup cheese
5 crisp slices of bacon, cut up
