What main dish should I serve for this get together?!

Question:

What main dish should I serve for this get together?

We're having an early Christmas get together this Sunday. The whole family is coming. I didn't want to make turkey or ham since we just had Thanksgiving, everybody's tired of it. Any good ideas on what to serve for the main dish?

Answers:
PRIME RIB!!!!!

lasagna.... yum!

lasagna and make it an italian thing have other people bring food like antipasta, veggie pizza and the what not...

If people are not allergic, a seafood dish will be nice:

baked salmon
tuna steaks or steak of another fish
crab alfredo
shrimp pasta
good old fish and chips/ fries

some kind of pasta such as lasagna

Lasagna or pasta is a good choice.
You could also roast a chicken or hen.
Pair it with some good veggies and warm bread! Yum!

it would be easy to make a turkey but since everyone is tired of it, have a bit pot of soup ready. try looking up tuscan soup, like they have at the italian restaurants. i always use that as the first course to fill everyone up, then bring out a bunch of veggies and meats and whatnot.

stuffed chicken breastS. half way through baking the chicken breasts in the oven (after about 10mins, gas mk 5) take them out and slit into them. fill with gruyere cheese and pan fried button mushrooms, season to taste and then wrap up chicken in strips of smoked bacon. put back in oven and cook for further 10-15mins, or until bacon is cooked to your liking. serve with roast/sauteed potatoes and asparagus. delicious.

serve chevon or goat meat broasted or grilled in white pepper sauce or as a green pepper goat steak.
you could add grilled snapper or grouper on the side with some potato or yam, and a salad too

I went to a Christmas gathering last year and we had steak and shrimp. That was good!!

The lasagna idea is a good one too..you can feed alot out of one pan.

You could also do a big family barbecue. You could do burgers, chicken or ribs and the fixins. Another idea is a potluck. Everyone could make their fave dish and bring it for all to try.
A fish fry would be good too.

Happy Holidays : )

Herbed pork roast

We just did a mexican fiesta to get away from the whole holiday theme! super easy just cook up some beans and rice and do some shredded beef and green chili and throw out some veggies to put on it and do a little buffet thang!

perhaps a pork tenderloin or so meatballs you could sketti or make subs!

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding might be nice.
Even if a standing or rib roast is too expensive for the
size of the gathering, there are roasts that are perfect
for that, don't you agree? I would not serve a thick gravy
but a thin one made of the roasting juices, a few flavors
like currant jelly and some brandy or cognac, pepper...
Also serve a sour-cream horseradish sauce with apple,
and a mustard sauce.

You might also serve roast potatoes and offer a variety
of toppings: butter, sour cream, chives or scallions,
cheddar cheese, some red caviar.

One very nice green vegetable ... I'd pick some snow
peas since they are not an every-day vegetable... and
be sure they are not overdone... they should be bright
green and given just a little butter

for dessert .. in the living room, I hope, with a lovely fire in the
fireplace ... coffee, tea, and a beautiful cake like a Chocolate Hazelnut Torte (in the online Williams Sonoma recipe - beautiful!) or and Italian Almond Tart (which is also on the Williams Sonoma website) for a second one and third, a classic Poundcake (with a touch of mace ... on the Fannie Farmer cookbook website) which would give something plain ....

Maybe they don't have Martinelli's sparkling apple juice where you live, but it is a lovely drink.... instead you might mix a sparkling water with some plain syrup and fruit juice which you make yourself in your juicer....

If you wish, you might serve cognac with dessert ... or some
Drambuie or Irish Mist ... beware! Who is driving???

Oh, oh... your question said "for the main dish" ... sorry, I got carried away ...

We wish you ...a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

One year we had just had two Thanksgiving dinners. One we had Turkey and the other had Ham. My family full of turkey and ham by christmas so my father who had been chosen to fix the christmas dinner made chicken.

How early? Bagels and lox are always great. Later than that?
Prime roast with potatoes, carrots, some sugar snap peas and home made bread with real butter. Don't forget the pecan pie, tea and coffee.
Yum-ee!

make a pork tenderloin stuffed with provolone garlic and prochottio and topped with rosemary

Get a really good tenderloin of beef and roast it with a parmesan crust.
Trim the fat and silver skin off of the tenderloin, pierce all over and insert garlic cloves. Then, create a mixture of good grated parmesan or locatelli cheese (get it from a good cheese shop) roughly chopped parsley, cracked black pepper and olive oil, coat top three sides with mixture and place in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes, then reduce to 250 degrees until desired doneness

Lamb is very good....
Buffalo they say is good but I have never had it.
Lasagna
spaghetti
Chicken
Pork Chops
Roast

Lasagna. It's easy, you can make it ahead, and it's a hearty meal.
