First of all, if you want a nice moist cake, put a heaping Tbsp!. full of mayonnaise in the cake batter!. Then, when it's done in the oven, freeze the cake!. The mayo makes it nice and moist and freezing it helps lock in the moisture!. Plus, freezing it makes it easier to level and frost!. Go with chocolate cake or yellow cake, they're always a hit!. Buy the Pillsbury brand cake mix, it's just as good as all the others including made from scratch, and it's the cheapest!. However, icing is not all the same!. You should make your own icing!. Here's a good icing recipe that I use and people always rave about it:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 Tbsp!. Milk or water
1 tsp!. vanilla or almond flavoring
4 cups of powdered sugar
Just throw all that stuff in a bowl and beat it with the electric mixer!. Simple!. I recommend the almond flavor, everyone always loves that the best!. This recipe will make a nice stiff icing, but you will want to frost the cake with a thinner icing!. So, if you are going to want to decorate with flowers or something, you should take a couple big spoonfuls of the icing out of the bowl and save it!. Then add some more milk to the rest of the icing and beat it again!. If you add about 1 1/2 Tbsp!. it should make it thin enough to frost the cake with!. If your icing is too stiff, you will get crumbs in the icing when you frost it!. And then you can decorate it however you want that will suit the person you're making it for!. Make flowers with your leftover stiff buttercream icing, write on it with some of the thin icing, or you can just buy some candy and sprinkles and stuff to put on it!. Either way, the person you're making it for will love it!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
