PLEASE HELP! Party problem (smoking)!?!

Question: PLEASE HELP! Party problem (smoking)!!?
I'm having a party for halloween but my parents have said that people aren't allowed to go outside because people will trample mud everywhere!.

However, most (practially ALL) of my friends smoke and last time my friend had a party and let people smoke inside the walls were STAINED and it smelt gross for like a week!.

Most my friends are 18 and so I cant really stop them and even though dont smoke myself, I understand that they want to while their drinking ect!. Btw, I live in the UK were the smoking/drinking age is 18!.

My parents don't want be to open any of the windows/doors because of the neighbours and have said people can smoke inside but they don't realise HOW MUCH all my friends smoke!

Has anyone got any ideas!?
Would leaving the extractor fan on in the kitchen (the only place people are allowed to smoke) work!?!? Any other ideas!?!?

Thanks so much :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
don't let them smoke in the house!. i am a non smoker and would honestly be horrified if a group of people lit up in my house!. i am sure i would smell it for weeks!

do they have a garage!? why not get them to leave the car out on the road and then decorate the garage with some halloween lanterns and provide some ashtrays!.

i am sure your mates would have no problem with going outside to somewhere dry for a ciggy!. lets face it smokers are having to compromise every day now with the new laws!.

have a great party anyways xWww@FoodAQ@Com

As its your parents house I think you should ask them what they would suggest you do with the smokers!. I have always asked people to go outside as we don't smoke!. You can't expect them not to smoke at a party so you should have a designated smoking area so I really do think your parents should decide where!. They can't say they don't want smokers outside if they don't want them smoking inside!. They'll have to make their minds up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You could try allowing your friends to only smoke in one room!.!.
But lets be realistic, once they've had a few drinks they're gonna completely "forget" which room that is!. ;-)
Instead, try researching a few ways in which to remove the smell of smoke!.
Febreeze can be good for your furniture!.
Good luck and enjoy the party!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Do you have a deck or porch where people could stand outside and not get muddy!? Or could you put something down outside!? I dont smoke and I hate it!. Whatever room you choose as the smoking room will stink for days afterwards and the smoke does stain the ceiling and walls etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

don't let them smoke inside, if they are your friends they need to respect that!. the smell take s forever to go away!

is there any way you can figure out a designated area out side where they can go and not track mud in!? a patio or driveway!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

i would allow smoking in one room only if they cannot go outside, and yes the kitchen with the extractor fan is an ideal room!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Have them smoke at the back door!. The extractor fan idea doesn't sound too great!.!.!. I wouldn't want my kitchen smelling of smoke!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

if theyve said they can smoke in the house let them!. then theyll get a nice suprise when their house stinks after!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

kick them out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The mud problem is easily dealt with as people have said - just put something down for them to stand on!.

However, your parent's reluctance to allow the doors and windows to be opened makes me think that they are really more worried about the noise people will make standing around with cigarettes and drinks!.

We have just moved away from near a pub!. It was no problem living nearby until the new smoking rules came in and then we got constant noise all evening form the smokers sat outside!.

I think your idea of leaving the extractor fan on is the best one and allocating the kitchen!. Recruit a few friends to remind people to head for that when they light up!. If these people are really your friends they will respect that and not make a fuss or insist on smoking elsewhere!. If they dont respect your wishes then they are not what I would call friends!.

Seriously though you have to consider your friend set!. Smokers are now so diminished in number I'm wondering why so many of your friends smoke!. My friend gave up recently and she said the hardest thing was that she realised she had subconsciously chosen friends who smoked because she felt comfortable being with them!. Once she was a non-smoker she found she was making them feel uncomfortable and she now sees them less!. So smokers hang round with smokers!. if you socialise a lot with them you are putting your health at risk AND you have to sit outside the pub with them in the freezing cold!Www@FoodAQ@Com

My husband and I smoke, but even we don't smoke inside (and there's only the 2 of us here)!. Get a large heavy plastic sheet, or tarpaulin (Home Depot should have them) to set outside the door, for them to stand on!.!.!.or find a cheap large carpet remnant to put out there!. Have a bucket with some sand in it, so they don't throw the butts on the ground!. !.!.!. I'd still have some candles and air fresheners in the house though!. You can get those solid fresheners (or plug in a couple of Glade or Airwicks); you can also get an air ionizer to plug in, which takes care of any smoke smell inside, but they're about $50!. !.!.!.!. If you use Cinnamon Apple candles and air fresheners, it will really work together and make the room smell Autumn festive anyways:)Www@FoodAQ@Com
