Housewarming Party at Parent's New Home?!

Question:

Housewarming Party at Parent's New Home?

My parents have just settled into a brand new home. How do I EVEN begin to hold a housewarming party?

I have limited funds, but I desire a "casual party". My parents are down-to-earth people...not one to "keep up with the Joneses".

Thank you.

Answers:
Pot Luck party and you might consider a theme--a pizza party, with everybody bringing different toppings, a game to share, and some music to share has always been popular when I throw one.

get punch chip and a pizza and blast your radio and clean up.

I like to give plants...try doing a theme or something.

Talk to your parents,Get a list of people they would like to invite.Plan a bar-b-que Or better yet just little snacks, don't want any messes in the new carpet.. Heehee it could be like a "bring a cassarole'Thing that will help defray some of the cost.Do your parents need or want gifts? make that specific in the invites.Especially if they don't want gifts. Good luck

This is what I served for one of the most complimented parties I've ever had:

Chili--I made one pot of regular, one vegetarian just because some of the guests were vegetarians. (made it in crockpots)

Baked potatoes--I scrubbed them, wrapped them in foil and baked them, then kept them warm in an electric roaster oven.

Salad---from a bag, with a couple of dressing choices

Butter, shredded cheddar, sour cream, chopped green onions, small tortilla chips.

People made taco salads, ate chili alone, or loaded baked potatoes, or had potato and salad---or some combination of these things.

Iced tea and punch (it was in October or November, I made something apple-cranberry-ish)

For dessert, I bought a big box of Belgian chocolates and a few bottles of inexpensive Spumante.

I bought everything at Costco, and it was really inexpensive but everyone felt like they had choices and had a real meal.

Candles, some quiet music, and it's all you need.

You can have a buffet and serve either finger foods such as sandwiches, salads and chips served with iced teas and soda's of coffe and tea. Or you can serve a dessert buffet and have a couple different cakes, cookies, pie, tea, coffee and co-coa. Paper plates, cups and plastic utensils will make clean up a snap.

I would do a chili party-You cook 2 types of chili-one meat based, a white bean/chicken, and/or a vegeterian chili. For your sides
you have cornbread, fritoes/cornchips, sourcream, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, cheese. Everyone chooses the chili
they want and then they add their toppings. Have punch or soft drinks and an easy dessert. When you invite guest ask them to bring a copy of a favorite recipe .When you mail the invitation.
You can supply the index cards (colored/or designed one)
So for your gift would be the box that holds the cards.

If you don't want to do that-you can have a pound party. Each guest brings a pound of something-bag of sugar, spices, etc (basically things to go in the pantry).
