What stores carry nice, formal chopsticks?!

Question:

What stores carry nice, formal chopsticks?

I'm looking for a really nice set. I live in des moines, so a chain/franchise store would be best.

Answers:
I've seen them at Pier One imports and World Market.

Many Asian markets and import stores carry them. I live in Rochester and they're all over the place. Probably around 4 in a 5 mile radius. But just go in and ask. In addition to food, they usually have a trinket section where you can find really nice chopsticks made out of varnished wood with cool designs on them. Good luck!

Have you tried Pier One Imports?

Usually specialty shops are the best place to look. If you have a cookware or kitchen store locally, I would call and see what they've got.

You might be best ordering online.

You can choose between Japanese, Chinese or Korean chopsticks.

In most places, Korean chopsticks are slightly harder to source. But because of that, and because they're usually made of stainless steel, they can look trendy. And unlike wood chopsticks, they'll last a long time. However, they might be too casual looking.

I got some beautiful inlaid wood chopsticks when I was in Singapore. They're fairly formal, certainly more so than the bamboo chopsticks with painted cats.

Doesn't de moines have a asian/chinatown?

ikea

Pier One and World Market both have really nice sets with the little holders as well.
