How do you throw a good dinner party?!

Question:

How do you throw a good dinner party?

I need some ideas. I want it to be semi-formal or maybe casual. But I need a theme or something. I've heard about music parties and stuff. I just need to info! Thanks!

Answers:
If you've never had a dinner party before, definitely go casual. You want ppl to be relaxed, and they only will be if YOU are.

Theme the food and music: mexican, italian, greek, french... and go from there. Set up a buffet so ppl can fix their own plates, and have enough seating for everyone.

Oh, and make dishes you are good at. This is not the time to try a cheese souffle or a standing crown roast ifyou've never made one! Stick w/ a tried & true staple of yours... branch out at your next couple of dinner parties once you've gotten your feet wet.

hey you can select jungle theme, where you all can dress up in quite jungli. threre will be samba ..ramba kind of musuc.....and mostly dishes will be like jungli ckichen..grilled sandwitch...fruit juices and all. you can arrange some games.

The most important thing when having a dinner party is to invite good friends! People who are fun to talk to, pleasant, polite, and will appreciate the time and effort you've made for them.
Once your guest list is done, then it's easy. Have good music, drinks, decent food, and maybe some fun board games for after dessert!

I would go casual for your first dinner party. I usually fix light appetizers and then something everyone will enjoy. Don't go extravagant, it tends to make people feel uncomfotable. I usually stick to comfort foods that most people like. But I agree that the most important thing is who you invite. Make sure to have a good mixture of people that will help keep the conversation going. If you want a theme, try a movie theme. You can pick a movie and come as charaters from that movie. I have done "Rocky Horror Picture Show", Quentin Tarantino Movies and "A Clockwork Orange". Any movie would work where there are reconizable characters would work.
