Quick dinner party ideas?!
Quick dinner party ideas?
I have put my birthday planning in the hands of my friends and, if my newly formed ulcer is any indication, I am scared that it'll be a disaster. Can anyone give me some ideas for a quick Asain themed party so, if they do forget, I can run to the store and fix everything.

bluecrab, I worry because the last time I asked them to do anything it was pick something up at the store since I'd be running late. They couldn't do that. I've already been told that one of the two things I asked for (one being dinner, the other being my friends there) wasn't happening. Guess which one, it was friends showing up. A month advance and they are already planning on not picking anyone up who needs a lift.

you can always order out from an asian restaurant, take it home and put it in nice serving dishes. don't stress out over this. If you have some good cocktails, beer and wine on hand everything should be fine.
you could make rice and buy chips and dip or cheese and crackers as an appetizer type thing. dont for get the little chicken bites to go with the rice!!
Egg rolls and fried rice is easy. Get the recipes from www.recipezaar.com and www.allrecipes.com. Good luck.
Well, if you live close to a Trader Joe's, you're in luck!
They have wonderful, easy to prepare asian dishes.
I suggest the Orange Chicken (in the frozen section), the Chicken Egg Rolls with Sweet n Sour sauce, Edamame (soybeans), and the chicken stuffing for lettuce wraps with romaine lettuce.
With the above items you can have it all thrown together within a half an hour and the taste is incomparable.
Now if you don't live near a Trader Joe's....well, disregard everything I just said. :(
Hit you local deli / Asian specialty store. They should have plenty of good prepared items on hand.
Don't forget the desert rice cakes! Yum.
Here's a little early birthday gift in the form of advice. You should think of your friends here. They're trying to do something nice for you and you're assuming they'll screw up.
Even if they do mess up a little, what kind of message does it send when you haul out your own food? That you didn't trust those you consider your best friends??
Let them screw up. If they tried, that's all that matters. Figure out a way to have fun anyway. You can always order out pizza.
From one control freak to another....let go and enjoy someone else doing the work-even if it isn't how you would do it yourself.
happy birthday!
