What activities can I plan to make a retirement party memorable?!
What activities can I plan to make a retirement party memorable?
My dad's boss and I are planning a large retirement/55th birthday party for him. We are planning for a large group of about 75 people. It will be a surprise party. Dad is a fisherman, so I've decided to have a fish fry and go with a "gone fishing" theme. I've found plenty of party favors and decorations, but I'd really like to get the guests involved.
I think it would be hard to play games with that many people. I'd like to try to have some activities that are fun and funny that will make the party truly memorable. Dad is not a sentimental person, I don't think he'd care too much about a scrapbook and I know he won't watch a videotape. I'd really appreciate any suggestions you can offer! Many thanks.

Make a list and call it Fish Tales.
Make several things that are true about your dad that people would never have known , and then make several that are false, read them out loud and by a show of hands, have people guess if it's a fish tale/ or true story. Your dad will like hearing things from his past or things you have noticed about him while growing up and the guests will love learning more things about the guest of honor!
Didn't know of any ideas from the top of my head but here's some sites I looked on and they have pretty interesting ideas.

While it's not an activity, passing around a journal type book for everyone to write a memory in would make great reading material for dad to pick up and look at now and again. Sentimental or not, memories that make you smile are priceless.
You could have people bring white elephant gifts. THoseare silly presents that would just make a person laugh, but the would not actually use. Do something to try to make him laugh. You are less likely to remember something if it isn't funny.
