I think being a good host can play an important role as you may want to introduce one friend to another, and also to keep the party rollin'.
The most important element of a good party are the people make sure you no these people whom you invite cause if there is trouble the police will come.Make sure there is not to much drinking and always have lots of food to feed people so they do not get to drink fast.If there is no drinking even better.The music is important to.It should be positive music not negative.The person holding the party is responsible for every one that comes make sure you have taxi money put a side for people do not let any one drive.The person holding the party should not drink to much either so they can keep control of their house hold.Good luck and remember Do not let people drink and drive.

Friends, family and music are a given. Food should
be simple and easy to eat. Assuming this would be
an adult party, word or trivia games can be started
by a few, and usually ALWAYS end up involving most
if not all of the attendees.
Good parties can be killed easily though - try to keep
guests inside or at least in the same area. Small
congregations in the front yard, or in another room,
or otherwise separated from the main crowd usually
start to disperse your event. The host/hostess needs
to keep themselves visible and involved with the guests.
I have been at parties where the host went into another
room and went to sleep on a couch!
