Everyone loves this dish, i bring it to many potluck parties and it is always requested.
Sounds wierd but it is sooo good!
its a layer salad
Chopped iceberg lettuce
chopped scallions
chopped tomatoes
1 can "heinz vegetarian baked beans" (must be this brand)
shredded cheddar cheese
crunched up doritos
catalina dressing

layer the salad in this order, i promise you will crave this at least once a week!

Chili is always a hit as it can be easily reheated in the microwave, oven or on top of the stove.

7 layer bean dip

Scalloped potatoes, au gratin potatoes. Potato salad. Green salad. The list is too long to go on. Any dish that you enjoy fixing, other people will enjoy eating.

I do a big pasta bake, or a pasta salad. I've also taken Jello salad or baked beans.

Just take your favorite dish. That's the fun of being able to pick different dishes.

A nice taco salad.

Chicken salad. Easy to make and I didn't have to worry about heating it. Everyone loved it.

lasagna, or cabbage rolls

Guacamole, queso & chips, or pick a dessert - they are almost always a hit, especially if chocolate.

A green salad with dressings and a little relish tray.If not eaten,you can take it home and put every thing back in the fridge for lunch the next day.....

Spinach dip in a sourdough round with lots of veggies.works every time!

some thing w/o peanuts, cause a lot of people are allergic.
we had a potluck a while ago, something people brought were:

wraps cut into small bitesize pieces

and on and on

There is no best dish. If you're an inexperienced cook find a recipe that you're comfortable trying (epicurious.com is a great source because you can read feedback from people who have tried it) and do your best.

FAST WHITE-BEAN STEW

A colorful and satisfying stew is priceless this time of year, and you can't do much better than a tomatoey broth full of hearty cannellini beans, baby greens, and cubes of baked ham.

2 large garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 cup plus 1/2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 (14- to 15-oz) can stewed tomatoes
1 3/4 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
2 (19-oz) cans cannellini beans, rinsed and drained (3 cups)
1 (1/2-lb) piece baked ham (1/2 to 3/4 inch thick), cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (5-oz) bag baby romaine or baby arugula (10 cups loosely packed)
8 (3/4-inch-thick) slices baguette


Cook garlic in 1/4 cup oil in a 3 1/2- to 4 1/2-quart heavy pot over moderately high heat, stirring, until golden, 1 to 2 minutes. Coarsely cut up tomatoes in can with kitchen shears, then add (with juice) to garlic in oil. Stir in broth, beans, ham, and pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes. Stir in greens and cook until wilted, 3 minutes for romaine or 1 minute for arugula.

While stew is simmering, preheat broiler. Put bread on a baking sheet and drizzle with remaining 1/2 tablespoon oil. Broil 3 to 4 inches from heat until golden, 1 to 1 1/2 minutes.

Serve stew with toasts.

Makes 4 servings.

3 varieties of pizza. Just make sure you get there before they arrive & cut them into smaller pieces once you get inside. Nobody else will have thought of it & everybody likes pizza.
