Any ideas?!

Question:

Any ideas?

I am going to do a potluck reception after the wedding to keep the cost down and to involve my guests (about 200), the problem I am having is that I can not seem to come up with a good theme for the potluck. Anyone have any suggestions???

Answers:
Roadkill is always a big hit.

go seasonal with everything, depending on when the event is taking place. pastels for spring, browns for autumn, deep colors for summer and blues and whites for winter

Cassaroles make great pot luck dinners and cheap too

Do potluck's even have themes? That's the idea..POT LUCK..you never know what kind of food will be there. A little bit of everything.

If this doesn't satisfy you, then assign specific dishes to everyone.

I have never heard of a potluck reception before nor have I heard of a potluck having a theme since the term potluck means anything you want to bring.

Folks usually sign up under Salads, Desserts, Cold Cuts, Cheese, Veggies (Hot/Cold), Meat Dishes, Chicken Dishes, Rice, Potatoes.

Are you really sure this is a good idea for a Wedding Reception given the number of people, confusion and need to heat stuff up? Who will man the kitchen and do the clean up?

Best of luck.

taco / nacho all the fixing will make both and people can make it their way!

Read these articles. Lots of ideas:

First the salad days--then the just desserts.

Hmmm a theme for a potluck?? Well, seeing as it's your wedding, make it a fancy potluck, whatever everyone's favorite fancy dish is....even if that is cabbage rolls or something........or maybe a traditional potluck....recipes from old family secrets....after all, what's more traditional than a wedding!!

It is for a wedding. How about famous pairs. I'm drawing a blank on main course (other than liver and onions), but things like corn and lima beans (succotash) or red beans and rice. Just have the guests bring a "famous" pair.

Just have a pot luck surprise...it will create curiosity and have a winning prize for the most favourite pot.

All American
Italian
Mexican

Those three should have something for everyone.

Potluck wedding reception---do a sandwich bar.Take thin sliced breads and put them in a basket---then a tray of meats and cheeses, then the condiments in another basket(keep the line moving-prepackaged)Then put a bowl of green salad, and a veggy tray next(that way the salad will either be on the sandwich or eaten to fill themup). Now a couple of dressings--ranch or thousand.Next do a fruit bowl, potato salad, coleslaw, then abaked bean. Now you have finger food for the ones not too hungry and food for hungry ones also. All these can be done and wrapped tight a day ahead of time. You can now ask so&so what she would like to bring---serve from both sides of the table so they get to see everything.Do water, tea,or coffee. That is a nice low priced easy potluck.Just get someone to make sure that people bring what was promised---a few days ahead.Put relish trays around with olives, pickles, and onion rings for filler uppers, they work. This will encourage a easy clean up---fast,too.The baskets set the table off with large bows and material in them to match the decor..Congratulation.......

Good finger foods, like chicken fingers, egg rolls, and things you can dip in sauces..It could be an egg foo yong thingy reception..Pass out chop sticks with initials,etc.. of bride and groom! or,for desert..Good "fortune" for the bride and groom..cookies!

How about a comfort foods potluck? Everyone can bring food like macaroni and cheese, chicken, soup, and much more. That way, everyone can eat stuff that they are used to and may start some conversation about how they ate it in the past. If you want to get more flavors going on in this potluck, tell them that it's a culture themed potluck and they all should bring something from their culture. You'll hopefully get different types of foods that will soon be new favorites. Make sure there's an equal amount of entrees to desserts though. 200 people is a lot!

RATHER THAN CALL IT POTLUCK, CALL IT BUFFET STYLE. ITALIAN IS ALWAYS INEXPENSIVE AND GREAT FOR A LARGE GATHERING. PASTA AND VARIOUS SAUCES, BOTH WHITE AND RED, MEAT AND VEGGIE. MEATBALLS AND SAUSAGES, GARLIC BREADS AND ROLLS, AND OF COURSE LOTS OF SALADS. DON'T HAVE TOO MANY SELECTIONS, JUST PLENTY OF EACH. THESE ARE ALL EASY FOR YOUR GUESTS TO CONTRIBUTE. FOR BEVERAGES, HAVE LARGE CONTAINERS FILLED WITH ICE, SODA AND WATER. FOR DESSERT, YOUR WEDDING CAKE SERVED WITH SOME ICE CREAM, COFFE AND TEA WOULD BE MARVELOUS.
