What is an innovative suprise party idea for a sports lover?!

Question: What is an innovative suprise party idea for a sports lover!?
My boyfriend is basically expecting nothing for a birthday party this year!. His last one was awful so I want to surprise him with something original this year!. He loves hockey!. Any innovative ideas!?

I want to include a semi-large group of his college friends!. The two of us go to hockey games all the time so I don't really want to just catch a game (although I love the idea)!.

Since the majority of my guests will be dorm-room college students, I can't throw anything at a house!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Could you go to a Hockey Rink, like a local one in your area or surrounding area, when there's no games going on and rent it out for the afternoon or evening!? Then, decorate it in the team colors of his favorite team, you'll have the rink, the hockey atmosphere, set up the food, drinks, etc, but I doubt they'll allow alcohol if you do that, you'll have to talk to them!. You can also find out if there IS a game that day, maybe you can do something BEFORE the game and then everyone stay and watch the game if it's a game he would want to stay for!.

You could also rent out a place or do it at a friend's house and decorate it hockey style!. Put up the colors of his favorite team, hang some sticks, maybe some jerseys, make a puck, and go to the party store and see what they have!. I'm SURE they will have supplies in hockey themes, as it's a big fan based sport and you can hang that around the party area!.

You can get a cake with white icing to look like ice and make the cake look like the rink!. As wherever you get it made to look like a hockey rink and if they don't put players on, go to a toy store, get some plastic hockey players and put them on the cake, even if it's just 2 goalies!.

I would find out first if you can do it at a local rink that, that would really kick off the hockey atmosphere, but if there's going to be drinking, then you're going to have to check into something else!. Bars are pretty good about doing parties there!. I threw a surprise party in a bar for a friend and they were great about it!. We had the food, decorations, etc, and everyone bought their own drinks, but we did everything else with food, cake, etc!. It was awesome! They didn't limit us by time, we decorated anyway we wanted, and they gave us an entire area of the bar to do it in!. That could be another option, especially if you have a sports bar in your area that you watch games at!.

I hope some of these ideas help and that your boyfriend has a very Happy Birthday!Www@FoodAQ@Com
