Good Luck!

go to a rock store mabie get the beatels or jimi hendrix those were my faves in the 70's

Totino's Pizza Rolls are fab for 70's parties, check ebay for your cutouts too. Dont forget a bead curtain, disco ball if you can find one. Lots of big afro's and bellbottoms.

Village People, Saturday Night Fever (John Travolta), Aerosmith, Farah Fawcet, Raquel Welch, Fleetwood Mac

Um... I forgot the 70's.
Oh yeah, bell bottoms and uh...
I guess I didn't pay a lot of attention.
I typed in 70's decade and got American History, there's some good stuff there... to help you with decor,
It lists popular art, (Pop Art)
Books (The Hite Report and Johathon Linvingston Seagull) I remember the seagull book lot of people were coming up with all sorts of spiritual stuff from it.
Music, from Soul to rock and roll..
Best to ya.

The 70's had a lot of different styles. Do you know which aspect of the decade you want to base your theme on? Or were you going to include anything and everything that is 70's culture?

I think the wigs and bell bottoms is a great idea and a good place to start with your theme. If all the guests are willing to purchase their own outfit, that will also save you alot of time and money.

For decorations, again you have a lot to choose from, you might go with tie-die or rainbow patterns...anything bright. You could go to a flea market, swap meet, or other resale stores to find vintage games or toys (rubik's cube, slinky, etchasketch) that can serve as decorations as well as entertainment (although no to be counted on as the entertainment I hope). Find some 45 rpm records and record player, or some 8 track tapes. The sky is the limit here.

For food, you must have some form of jello, preferably prepared in a mold (remember how popular those were?). Jiffy Pop pocorn was really cool when I was a kid, too. Soda pop would be fun to serve if you can find it in glass bottles. I could go on, but I have to leave. Good luck.

Disco and John Travolta were more early 80's than much of the 70's. In the 70's we listened to more Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Bob Seger, Kiss, Doobie Brothers, Rod Steward, Alice Cooper. We wore very wide leg bell bottoms that were called elephant legs and alot of headbands and beads. Black lights and lava lamps were hot then. We also burned incense to cover certain other odors. Cutouts are kind of expensive, you might want to try posters and black light bulbs. Sounds like a fun party idea. Have a great time. You Mum will definately appreciate it. I would. Well, what I would do is go to a thrift store; in my area they would be Value Village and Goodwill, and buy a bunch of 70's era dishes, bowls, and other servingware. It is cheap and will really help to make your party authentic! Nuthin' like an olive green fondue pot with little white mushrooms on it to get the party off to a good start! Now, serve: macaroni & cheese with hotdogs cut up in it, tuna noodle casserole with crushed potato chips, deviled eggs, wedges of head lettuce floating in a sea of Catalina salad dressing, and brown & serve rolls with squeeze-parkay margarine. Finish with one of those layer cakes with confetti in the batter. Punch would be gingerale and Hawaiian punch mixed together with balls of sherbet floating in it. Don't laugh; I'm serious! side-note: this stuff is all yummy. Have fun!

God Bless you , what a cool idea ! Find out who your Mum liked then.Find a record store,& ask for help there. They're a great resource for where to find stuff, if they dont have it. Good luck.

Fondue! Big in the 70's!

What ever the decorations, fondue is easy, fun and group friendly.

Crock pots will work. Rub inside with a garlic clove before adding ingredients. Cheese (start with a condensed cheese soup) add other cheeses (Swiss & cheddar are common choices) especially if they have a favorite. Bread, vegies of all kinds, try large bowties, etc. for a cheesey pasta.

Hot broth in a crockpot is great for cooking shrimp, thin cut meat (partially freeze meat to cut really thin), vegies. What ever you would put in soup then when your done everyone can have a very rich flavored broth or soup (since some pieces of meat, vegies, etc. will have falling in).

Dessert - Chocolate fondue - chocolate chips & milk heated on defrost in micro, minute at a time & stir. Dip cake, cookies, strawberries, pretzels, etc. What else have you seen with chocolate on it?

Couple of sources for recipes:

Well have a party at a big rented hall and have everyone send cards before hand (put in a book for later viewing) save the wrapping paper from each gift and list who it came from, get a guest book to sign for all the guests take lots of picutres and videos. Laster when party is done they will have the cards and videos and picutres to look at for a long time. have it catered with pizza or sandwiches from subway. No ideas on life size cut outs, but you can print things out small and have them enlarged at a place like Kinkos. Just play 70's music, buy a mix of some and just play them. Do the duck (some call it the chicken) dance, and play games, give little prizes. I did this for my grandparents twice, and it was a success!. Good Luck! (my mother saved all my gifts, cards, wrapping paper, valentines cards and other cards and awards for every year, and put them in a book for me, and each year I really love and enjoy looking back at them! It's a great memory to have.

is John Travolta 70?
