Question:

Onion soup + 2 dishes. What should I serve?

Answers:
do you have a background? such as asian, italian, chineese etc:

try onion soup for starter, tagitelle pasta in a white wine sauce, strawberry cheesecake for afters.

or. onion soup, roast beef dinner and apple crumble.

if you are into pastas then go with a pasta in a rich sauce
why not go with a curry- although it wouldnt go with onion soup. try spring rolls or samosa with that one
or pizza, create your own,

pudding.
If this is for a long term reletionship why not buy fresh halved strawberries and melt some chocolate and take it upstairs.

serve stuffed chicken breast on a bed of mashed potatoes for main and nothing beats a slightly warm chocolate cake with cream or if the person doesn't like chocolate then apple crumble, its still winter so nice warm food that my mother used to make.....yummy!

Crown rib roast and a 6 item salad with various choices of dressings for the salad.

depends on what your guests like...
This time of year...a spinach salad is VERY good, because it is hearty...and easy to get (cheap too)..lettuce all is frost-burned and brown...
wash the spinach...dry it..(spinner...or put in a hand towel and swing it around...)
slice up red onions...very thin...
mushrooms...bacon..tomatoes (the little grape tomatoes are really tasty.)....serve with a light bleu cheese dressing...(or any dressing you like)
maybe try a ranch...or poppy-seed..

NEXT...why not do a pork tenderloin?...on the BBQ...
or you can roast it too...
salt and pepper the meat...put in a NEW CLEAN plastic bag...add in some fresh ground ginger...about 2 tsp...
add in a heaping tsp of chopped garlic...
juice of one lemon...and a couple sprigs of rosemary..take off the leaves and "bruise" them...don't cut them...just get the oils moving in the leaves...gives more flavour..add a couple tablespoons of honey and some dijon mustard...a good 2 tblsp
allow all that to marinate with the pork for at LEAST 2 hours.
THEN...cook slowly SLOWLY...over coals on BBQ..or in a 350 oven until med doneness...
remove and cover with foil (shiny side down) for 10 minutes...slice thinly on an angle plate and serve !!

for potatoes...why not slice up a bunch...and some onion...add salt & pepper
put some oil spray on a big sheet of tin foil...plop the potatoes and onions on the foil...drop on some butter or margarine....wrap up tight...do them in the oven or BBQ at same time as doing the pork....YUMMY...
and don't forget the sour cream for them..
have a nice dinner....it's not an expensive one...and it's not hard to make, either..

Chicken would go well. I make an awesome baked chicken dish. Use skinless, boneless chicken breasts--slice to make them thin or use cutlets. Melt 2 cups of butter and add 1 cup of Parmesan cheese to it and 4 cloves of pressed or minced garlic.
In a 13x9 baking pan, spread 3/4 bag of Pepperidge Farm stuffing crumbs (other brands are ok but this kind makes it taste the best). Dip each piece of chicken in the butter mix, then roll in pan with crumbs from one end to the other. You need to stir the butter mix from time to time so the cheese doesn't settle to the bottom. When all chicken is coated with the crumbs and the dish is full, pour remaining butter mix over all of it. Bake in a 350 oven, covered for about 40 minutes. Then uncover and leave in for another 5 minutes or so. It is yummy !!
I usually serve with a good Italian salad and/or broccoli --steamed with some lemon juice on it and salt and pepper.

Always some sort of crusty bread with onion soup....it's the best. I don't know about the other one...

Meat loaf and mashed potatoes with gravy. Garlic bread. A side salad with any dressing.

Follow with a nice roast beef cooked with potatoes and carrots and a salad.

Onion soup sounds good - be sure to top with a slice of toast that has been spread with dijon mustard. A really easy main dish is mix 2 tablespoons of low fat mayo with 2ozs of mashed stilton & spread on underside of chicken & then wrap parma ham or raw bacon around whole thing & bake in oven with jacket potatoes or roasties for 45mins on 180degrees. Serve with any veg or salad.

How about a nice Risotto?? Very easy to make and tasty! Follow it with some Italian Ice-cream for dessert.
