Answers:
1st you see it
next you smell it
next you taste it
so, you tell me...Is appearance important?

Absolutely! Just try introducing folks to something like blue corn tortilla chips or purple potatoes! (No kidding, these things really do exist!) When you go to culinary school, one of the things they emphasize is how each dish is "plated", or how it looks. It has to be visually appealing to entice the diner to want to try it. Watch the program Top Chef and you'll see it first hand.

I worked in a restaurant for over 5 years.
Presentation is at least half the enjoyment of the meal.
Most people won't eat something if it does not look good.

Garnishes make a big difference too.

Absolutely! You have to please the eyes before you please the palette. Would you eat something that looked awful? Beautiful food tempts everyone.

I always hear that you eat with your eyes first. You're more likely to enjoy eating something that looks interesting and appetizing. This is why restaurants spend so much time making the plate look wonderful, exciting and colourful!

You bet it has an effect.

That is why when you watch cooking shows, they do a lot of emphasis on the PRESENTATION. . . a fancy way of saying how it looks on the plate.

I definately believe that the way food looks influence peoples choices. I also believe that if you can get something that may not look terribly appetizing to smell good and be presented well (nicely on a platter, in a decorative bowl, etc) people are a lot more likely to try new things! All it takes is one person to try it and love it!

I definitely think it does..

You eat stuff if it looks bad?....People eat stuff that looks appealing

YES!! would you want to eat something that looks like it was scraped up off the road?
