What kind of Attire is this?!

Question:

What kind of Attire is this?

I'm making an invitation for a 50th anniversary dinner. The friends throwing the party DONT want people to wear tennis shoes or T-shirts...but its not a dressy-formal party. How should I word that while still keeping the invitations elegant? Semi-formal still sounds a bit more dressy than I believe they are thinking...and I don't think jeans are a problem...

Answers:
Casual or semi-casual,and you can add a note under it.

Casual Attire
Modestly
Or you can simply say "No Gym Shoes".

"Smart Casual"

I liked the 'smart casual' answer, I would also suggest Business or Business Casual...Cocktail attire may suggest something more formal that what you are looking for but it also an alternative.

CASUAL CHIC

Translation: The rule―mix a dressy element, like an elaborate velvet jacket, with something more informal, like jeans.
AKA: "Smart casual," "dressy casual," "casual threads," "informally fabulous," "simple and chic."

Call it business-casual attire.

Mention the Items on the invitation that are not acceptable.Smart Casual.Black Tie.

business casual

I'd say semi-formal.

elegant casual or even give suggestions in the invitations example... a fun dress or nice slacks with a blazer would be a fabulous attire for guests
