I have a new bamboo cutting board and need to know how to treat it?!

Question:

I have a new bamboo cutting board and need to know how to treat it?

Answers:
It is important to keep the board oiled well during the first few weeks. I use walnut oil (or another edible oil), remove excess oil rub it in with a soft cloth, and polish. Do not soak in water at all, and clean with as little as necessary with a slightly abrasive pad.

with care

Wipe it all over with vegetable oil and set it in your oven at the lowest heat setting for an hour or so until the oil is well absorbed. Wipe with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil and it should be ready for use.

Gee, I don't oil my bamboo boards at all (maybe I did once in the beginning, but have forgotten if I did).

I am pretty scrupulous though about washing the board immediately after using it (before anything can dry on it) using soap and water and a dish brush, then DRYING it immediately before putting up (... I also kind of lean mine in the space between the wall and my breadmaker to make sure it always dries thoroughly, and store it there on the countertop).

Great boards btw!
