Throwing Super Bowl Party on $50 budget?!

Question:

Throwing Super Bowl Party on $50 budget?

Approx. 10 adults...

I am not providing any alcoholic beverages. Was thinking sloppy joe's & some sides, but looking for some alternative ideas, recipes, foods, etc

Answers:
Sloppy Joes or shredded beef sandwiches would be great. Why not ask everyone to bring their favorite Super Bowl food too? That way, you are providing the main sandwich and they are adding side favorites. Be sure everyone lets you know what they are bringing....even if it is just a couple of bags of chips and various dips. If your market has cheaper cut roasts on sale it might be cheaper to make shredded beef sandwiches than Sloppy Joes. You cook the roast in a crock pot all day (you can do this the day before) with a can or two of beer and water to cover. Add a couple packages of Good Seasonings Italian Dressing mix (dry) and that's all you have to do. When the roast is falling a part you shred it with two forks. You can add some thickening agent (corn starch - flour, whatever) to thicken the juices if you wish. It makes a ton. Get your buns at a day old bakery spot like a Wonder bread store. Make some baked beans, coleslaw, taco dip and you've got it made. Or consider chili - always a favorite with guys and something you can make a day ahead or in crock pot. Make it easy on yourself and enjoy the game. GO BEARS!!!

Lots of chili and tortilla chips.

Sasauge balls:
1 pack of shredded cheddar cheese
1 tube of jimmy dean sausage
1 box of jiffy corn mix

Mix together and roll up into little balls. Bake them for 15 minutes.

They will be the hit of the party, I promise.

Go with Sloppy joes, tortilla chips with a chilli cheese dip (hormel no bean chili and velvetta cheese) and salsa, Potato chips, and buffalo wings (big bag at walmart for like 10-15, fry them. Melt a cup of butter with a large bottle of franks hot sauce or use a premade wing sauce and dip each wing in the sauce)

BUY 50 BUCKS WORTH OF CHICKEN WINGS AND FRIES, THEN TELL THEM BYOB

Can't lose if you have some tortilla chips and rotel dip.

Chicken Satay: lots of recipes on the Internet.
Individual chicken tenders marinaded in coconut milk and curry, then cooked and served in bamboo skewers. Peanut sauce for dipping.

$50...that's not a lot.

Try having a pot luck instead.

I just threw a party and the biggest hits were the cheapest and easiest ...

Chili Cheese Dip

1 Packet Philadelphia Cream Cheese
1 Can of Chili with beans & meat
1 Bag of shredded Mexican cheese

*spread cream cheese on bottom of pie pan evenly
*spread chili on top of cheese
*then sprinkle cheese on top
*pop into microwave or oven until cheese melts
*serve with tortilla chips

Pigs N a Blanket

1 pack of mini coctail winnies
1 pilsberry cresant roll

*open cresant roll and cut into thin strips
*wrap the weenie in the strip and bake!
*serve with mustard, ketchup, and any other sauce you want

Hope that helps .. b/c it's crazy cheap and goes a long way.

Someone else had my idea but I'd suggest a pot luck, too

go to either smart and final or costco, you'll find big quantitys of food for budgert concious party.

Why not a big pot of Chicken Tortilla Soup? Serve with salsa and chips, a bean/cheese dip, and brownies for dessert? (personally, I'd go with the pot luck idea myself!)

Chicken Tortilla Soup

2 -3 chicken breasts, boneless, skinless
1 large can plum tomatoes diced
1 can sweet corn, or use frozen
1 can black beans (rinsed)
1 -2 containers Organic Chicken Broth
1 - 2 large containers diced green chilis
3 -6 T Cumin
Salt To taste
Pepper To taste
Sour cream (optional)
Avocado slices (optional)
Tortilla chips (you can also make your own)
Sharp Chedder Cheese, shredded

Season the breasts with salt, pepper, garlic, and sautee in olive oil until browned and cooked thru. Cut into small bite-sized pieces and set aside. Blend the next 8 ingrediants and add chicken. Simmer for at least 15 minutes to blend flavors. Adjust flavors as it simmers. When serving, place tortilla chips in bottom of bowl, add soup, cheese, and sour cream. Garnish with avocado.

Make a big pot of Chili (ground beef is pretty inexpensive). I made chili for 40 people and it cost me about $12.00. Serve it with cheese, sour cream, hot sauce and tortilla chips (you can save a little cash by asking friends to bring the chips).
My Recipe:
Cheater Chili
3 lbls. ground beef or turkey
1 Large jar of Salsa (I use medium Tostitos)
2 pkgs. Chili Seasoning (in packets where you find taco seasoning)
1 can of pink beans (if you want beans in your chili,
good stretcher)
Follow the directions on the Chili Seasoning Pkg.

Everytime I've made this people rave.

Easily can be done on your budget, and if you have any extra cash (I'm sure you will) you can buy a few packages of hot dogs and some rolls for Chili dogs (great football food). HAVE FUN

two words: Pot luck

pot luck, and byob

Sloppy joes is a great idea....served with homemade coleslaw & bbq beans. For other sides & snacks, do some chips & salsa, rotel cheese dip in the crockpot & pizza or egg rolls.....You could also do a make it yourself taco bar with all the fixings for nachos as well.....Go Colts!!

Get big bulk bags of chips (regular or tortilla) and then put out a few different dips. You can get the premade ones for only around $3.00. Get a cheese dip, salsa, and a french onion or something for variety. You could just melt up some velveeta too. . . .Then do either mini sloppy joes, or chicken wings.

some deli foods are great, anti pasta salad, potato salad, hot dogs or kielbasa, chili, chips, different veggies/dips, crackers cheese, do some prosciutto wraps. its Italian ham, finger sandwiches, theres SO many fun foods, finger jello, get some football cookie cutters, it'd be cutesy for the jello, do a good pie, ice cream sundaes, popcorn, sweet pickles. corn bread, bagels bites with some pepperoni/sauce etc... pops, punch,

Chili with spaghetti and cheese and crackers or Just chili

Lasagna is another one with salad and garlic bread.

My friends are always willing to bring an appetizer to share and their own drinks.

fry some patatoes, develied eggs, baked beans, red beans and rice, salsa and chips, bean dip

Make a big pot of chili and set up a self serve chili bar. If you want to start with vegetarian bean chili, and have a variety of toppings. People can keep going back and trying new combos. And it's super easy for you! Make everythingin advance and then just heat the chili and cook the meat on the day of. Topping ideas: cooked hamburger, grilled chicken, cheese, chiles, chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, cilantro, salsa, scallions, lime wedges, sour cream or plain yogurt, chopped avocado or guacamole and tortilla chips. Don't forget a tray of brownies or a box of cookies for dessert. :) have fun!
