Funeral dessert?!

Question:

Funeral dessert?

What type of dessert would you bring to a funeral? It's for the after gathering. The deceased lived a long (102!), loving, amazing life so it won't be a somber occasion. The gathering will be at about 11:00 am.

It really depends on where the gathering is going to take place. Are people going to be moving around? If people are going to moving about a lot, then, individual serving or finger type foods would be best - cookies, danish, cinnamon buns, muffins or other small pastries. If you go with small foods, variety is a good idea. Given the time of day, you probably don't want to take anything too rich. (You might want to avoid icing.) If people are going to be sitting, a simple cake, sweet bread or pie might be good. If there are going to be a lot of people with health problems there, you might want to go the healthy route and do something with fruit. If you know of any any body with an allergy, you might want to avoid any trigger foods. I am sure whatever you take will be appreciated!

Any type of bakery goods that are finger-foods is best for the funeral home . Something they can help themselves to in the table area .

Profiteroles/eclairs? "Finger food" as the above poster suggests.

I would inquire about the deceased's favorite dessert. Sometimes its nice to partake in something that are lost loved ones used to enjoy.

If you cannot get that info, a nice chocolate cake never offended anyone.

You could bake some cookies;easy and non-messy. Cookies can keep well for a few days also and you could make them well in advance.

How about coffee cake. People are going to be drinking coffee and tea.

Anything is acceptable. I usually like to make a fruit tart since I know others will be bringing cakes and such and a fruit tart is a refreshing change. What do you like to make? It will be fine. Even picking up a bucket of donut holes is fine and easy for those attending to grab and pop in their mouths. Do you happen to know if the deceased had a favorite dessert? That might be nice to bring.

Just go and celebrate an amazing life!

Down south, we even have funerals at home instead of the funeral home or the chapel. A true southern girl like myself would make a big batch of homemade banana pudding or a nice lemon pound cake. Southern comfort food at it's finest!!

Simple desserts - that do not need refrigeration are best, because usually a lot of food is brought and the refrig is needed for hams, casseroles. Take finger foods - brownies, cookies, pound cake - and put in a container that can be thrown away.

Make a triffle with the layers consisting of: whipped cream, chocolate pudding, fudge brownie crumbles and broken Skore bar pieces. It will be the talk of the funeral! :)
