Party for husband...ettiquette?!

Question:

Party for husband...ettiquette?

in 2 weeks my husband and I are inviting a few couples to a restaurant to celebrate his promotion from captian to Major in the airforce. We're paying for everything, including drinks. is this something people bring gifts to? and I ONLY ASK cos a friend mentioned she was looking for a gift.
Also, any ideas on how to make it really air force themed? like put a toy f 15 on a cake or something?

My veteran husband says that gifts should not be expected at all. Just maybe a congratulatory card. So if a friend wants to get him a gift, you can't stop them, but they might do it anyway.

And he says that he loves the idea of a little toy fighter plane on the cake. He thinks that would be perfect.

And congratulations on his promotion!

First, congratulations on the promotion! Chances are, people will bring gifts, but if you are sending out invitations, you can always put "No gifts, please" on it somewhere if that's what you wish.

Go to a toy or hobby store and you can probably find a small model F15 that could be put on top of a cake or used as a centerpiece on a table.

I would try a hobby shop for a F-15 and make a centerpeice!! instead of a cake I might opt for cupcakes with shoulder stripes, the tablecloth could be a landing field /Stars and stripes or related "Air Force theme"~~~~~~~~~ my Step Dad is a retired Air Force navigator/ co-pilot!!! what wonderful way to celebrate his promotion!best of luck and Congrats to the both of you , You have stood beside him through alot!!!I can see you are sooo proud of him!! As far as gifts, yes : as in any promotion he deserves a token of gratitude. And please tell him THANKS from us civilians for being a part of our great nations awesome team!!! hope my suggestions help.

It's not a gift sort of party so I would make sure everyone knows that beforehand.
