What to bring to a Chinese New Year Party??!

Question:

What to bring to a Chinese New Year Party??

What can I bring to a Chinese New Year party? Its not being thrown by a traditional Chinese Family, we're just celebrating it. Thanks!

Answers:
I love Chinese New Year!!!! Lots of firecrackers and good fun!
Since your host family is not Chinese, I suppose anything goes, but it might be nice if you did bring something of the Asian persuasian to the soiree. Perhaps some homemade egg rolls? Or shop your favorite Chinese takeout and have them create a platter for you. If you truly want to go American, then decide whether or not you're going to bring a dessert or a snack. Anything from cheese and crackers to brownines will do the trick.

This site, although "kid oriented", has alot of good ideas to start from. Small adaptations could be used to make them more age appropriate. With about two weeks left this should serve as a great starting point.

Crab rangoon is really easy to make...a package of wonton wrappers, 3 oz fake or real crab, 3 oz cream cheese, chopped green onions, a little ginger. Mix the crab, cheese, onions and ginger, put a spoonful in the center of a wonton wrapper. Dip your finger in water and run it around the edge. Fold over and squeeze out the air. You can make them up to 3 days ahead of time. Then right before you go, fry them in a little vegetable oil until they're brown.

They also rewarm really well, making them the perfect party treat.

Fireworks, a fully charged cell phone, and a fire extinguisher

Frozen potstickers are delicious and easy to make. They come with a dipping sauce, too. Have you ever made "tea eggs?" You hard-boil eggs, purposely lightly crack them, leaving the shell on. Then you simmer them in a liquid consisting of tea, sake, soy sauce, star anise, cinnamon, and orange peels. After they've cooled, and you peel them, the whites have taken on the most beautiful pattern, almost like tie-dye. It's a traditional Chinese treat. Crispy-fried wontons are delicious, too. You can buy wonton wrappers in the produce section, usually. There's a recipe in with the wrappers, usually a mixture of shrimp, a bit of pork, green onion, cornstarch, and a drop or sesame oil. Fold them according to the picture on the package and deep fry. They are a real showstopper, served with a jarred plum sauce, and maybe hot Chinese mustard. Yum!

...This is the year of the PIG, so make it one with red,for luck.....Hey red wine would be lucky for everyone there.....
