Question:

Good Ideas for a baby shower,,,games, decorations...help!!!?

The guest of honor is having a baby boy, I'm the host of this party...I have never done this before and I really need help. Any ideas would be great, especially ideas on games. The boyfriends and husbands will also be there.

Answers:
Baby shower games can be both silly and entertaining. Some are intended to embarrass the mom- or dad-to-be, but others can really be fun and may even teach you something. The promise of a prize, however small, adds to the fun.

These are some of our favorite shower games:

Guess the Girth
Check with the guest of honor in advance on this one. Some women may find this game a bit too personal, but if she's not shy, it can be a lot of fun. All you need is a ball or two of string. Ask guests to cut a length of string that they think will stretch around the future mom's belly. After everyone has had a turn, the mother-to-be measures and cuts a string that fits her belly. Compare her string to the pieces of string from each guest. The person who is closest wins. You'll be amazed at what people's estimates are. It's a great icebreaker and always good for some laughs.

Baby Picture Match Game
Before the shower, ask the guests for pictures of themselves as babies. Assemble the photos on a board and assign each a number. During the shower, pass out sheets of paper to the guests so they can match each baby to the appropriate grown-up. If the guests don't know each other well, name tags can help the process. The person who gets the most correct answers wins.

Baby Quiz
Ask the grandparents to write down what the parents were like as babies, and include vital statistics such as time of birth, height, weight, first tooth, first smile, age when toilet-trained, and early signs of their personality. Based on that information, make up a quiz about the future parents to hand out to guests. The person with the most correct answers wins a prize.

Melt the Ice
The day before the shower, freeze diaper pins, miniature pacifiers, tiny plastic babies, or similar items in ice cube trays. Give each guest an ice cube in a glass of water or other drink. The first person whose ice has melted so that the frozen item floats freely in the glass shouts, "My water broke!" and wins the game.

Swaddle/Dress the Baby
Get a life-size baby doll, receiving blanket, cloth diaper, diaper wrap, and onesie. Guests take turns trying to either dress or swaddle the baby. Time each guest ― the one who does it fastest wins.

Don't Say "Baby"
Give every guest a clothespin to attach to her clothing and wear during the shower. Tell everyone not to say the word "baby" for the rest of the shower. If someone hears another guest say the forbidden word (and it's hard not to say it!), she gets to take the other guest's clothespin(s). The winner? Whoever has the most clothespins at the end of the shower.

Guess the Baby Food
Buy six or eight jars of baby food, all different flavors, and enough plastic spoons for all of the guests. Remove the labels from the jars and number them. At the shower, have everyone taste each jar and write down what kind of food they think it is, without letting fellow guests see their answers. Whoever gets the most right wins a prize. For a large shower, you may need to buy two jars of each kind and divide your guests into groups.

The Diaper Bag Memory Game
This is one of those memory games in which you add onto the list until it becomes too long to remember. The first player starts by saying the name of an item that would normally be found in a diaper bag. The second player lists that item plus one of their own. Each subsequent person must list everything already mentioned, in the proper order, and then add one more item. If you forget an item or list them out of order, you're "out." The last person still in the game is the winner.

Baby picture guessing game - get baby pictures of all guests and have everyone fill out cards to guess who is matched to each picture - winner gets a prize

Try this website www.babyshowermoments.com. It really helped me with the baby shower I hosted.

you could play spin the bottle, and you could make paper chains.

i just answered this question for another girl yesterday this is what i told her.........

You should definitely serve finger foods like little chicken wings and dip or any type of food you can dip. And for the games, my favorite game is the clothes pin game, where everyone has a clothes pin on them and no one can cross their legs, arms eyes nothing. so if someone catches you crossing something they get your pin and whoever has the most pins @ the end of the game wins!

Get rolls of toilet paper. Pass it around and have them rip off a few pieces. Then go around and everyone has to tell something about themselves for every square of paper they have.

I once went to a baby shower where they put out 5 or 6 diapers opened up. Inside each diaper was a crushed up candy bar. The guests had to look at each one and try to figure out what candy bar was in which diaper without touching it. It looked kinda gross, but it was fun.

i went to a shower once where they had a rubber ducky theme. they put blue table cloths on the tables w/ rubber duckies every where. They even had some duckies in the punch bowl. it was really cute.

as for games i have been to showers where you have to finish nursery rhymes, pictionary w/ nursery rhymes, etc.

Are the husbands and boyfriends going to participate?

You can freeze plastic babies or pacifiers in ice cubes, and the first participant to "deliver" their baby first wins. You cannot break the ice cube though. It was a fun one, everyone was rolling watching them trying to defrost their baby!!

there is also a word game. make a list of scramble words on a paper & see who can unscramble the most. also have a basket of baby items ie. diapers diaper cream, baby powder, formula, baby bottle ect. & about halfway have the guest to write the items on a paper of what is in the basket. the one who has the most wins.

Try looking at these web sites

They all have great idea schemes and inexpensive decorations and favors

Everyone has good ideas and some of them I would've listed too...like the safety pin game and not crossing your legs...don't say the word "baby", the baby item memory game, etc.

But some I didn't read were...the baby food guessing game. The labels are removed from the jars and the guests taste and write on a sheet what their guess is. The guest who guessed the most correctly wins!

Also there is another with toilet paper. You have all the guests each rip the length of the toilet paper (at perforated lines of course) they believe will fit exactly around the mommy-to-be's tummy. The person who is the closest to the exact measurement of the mommy-to- be's tummy wins!

Another one I didn't read that I seen at a coed baby shower was having the guys diaper changing race. There were dolls with diapers that each had a surprise in them. The guys had to use wipes and all. It was hilarious. (Hint: the smashed up crackers and mixed them with mustard and smeared it in the diapers.)

Have fun!

we did this for my sis baby shower. I had one of my friends walk around the room with a tray that had about 7-10 baby items on the tray. You tell guests to memorize what is on tray. Then I had her leave the room. I then asked the guests about my friend who was carrying the tray...like what color was her shirt...color of eyes...things about what she has on. I just asked my friend to write about 10 questions about herself and what she is wearing that day. As soon as the first question is read you hear them all sigh...haha

Another one was we passed around a thing of yarn and scissors. Guests cut off the amount of string that they think will fit exactly around mom to be's waist. THe one the closest wins.

well at my bby shower we played this one game were u will need some smll saftey pins, a bag of rice, and a big bowl. then what u do is put the rice in a bowl and then put the safety pins on top. after that u mixed them together and have something to put around your eyes so that you cant see. the object of the game is to see who can find more saftey pins in 60seconds and the person with the most gets a prize. (i konw u probably what kind of prize huh?)well my mom and me brought up to ten gifts cuz we played at least ten games and since it ws my shower i didnt win no prizes cuz people were sending and givivg me gifts. but thats a game and it was fun and interestin at that. i hope u give a try and that u like it. well goodbye for now.

For party colors I would do it in baby blue, mint green and yellow.
( for streamers, balloons, paper plates find something cute ).

Get some cute beanie babies and attach them to helium balloons ( they make cute anchors and place them around the room in bunches).

Cute party favors could include refrigerator magnet photo frames, baby booties, baby bottles.

Party games: Name the baby ( get pictures of the Mom, Dad, Grandparents to be, friend and family in attendance and have them guess who the baby is) another game is to get 10 to 15 bottles of baby food and have people guess the flavor ( take the label off before playing the game).
