When buying pork for large group how many ounces per person should I figure?!

Question:

When buying pork for large group how many ounces per person should I figure?

I am getting married the end of august and we are doing bbq for food. We are buying boneless pork loins to roast and were wondering how many ounces of meat per person we should figure on. There are approximately 210 adults showing up. A pound per person seems like a lot, but 3 ounces doesn't seem enough especially since the pork will shrink once cooked. Thanks for the help!!

Answers:
Typical portion of Prok is 6 oz. Use that to measure. if you are gonna have 210 people that about 78 3/4 lbs of pork, but figure and extra 3% for emergency so go for 81 lbs and you should have plenty.

Also don't forget the sides.

I work in the catering dept. of a hotel.

If you are doing bbq, I would suggest Boston butt. The cut is not as expensive as loin and you will get true southern bbq. If you watch the discounts at your local supermarket , every morning they discount meat. Just purchase and put in freezer until ready to bbq.

I would go with 8 oz. per person, who wants to look cheap and run out. If there is extra it would make great sandwiches for a later time. Boston Butt is good but it is much fattier. If you go with sandwiches you could probably get by on a lot less, you didn't say if you were. Good luck on your wedding day!!
