I have always seen people use styrofoam pieces. Make your icing mixture out of either real icing that you can spray shalack onto, or use a plaster mixture, with coloring in it.
u can buy a rubber cake at spencers.
you can cut out styrofoam and decorate it with fondant
there is many ways! but plaster is the easiest way, you need a little bit of imagination!,
buy polomer clay at a craft store there are alot of colors and it will look so real
You can buy "fake cakes" at any cake decoration supply store. But you can also use a high density styrofoam, and ice it like you would a cake. It works awesome.

They look real and it such a cool thing!
buy a hole lot of icing and ask for cardboard boxes at the grocery store. shape the boxes into what u want the cake to look like and put the icing on the boxes. then just decorate the boxes and put that on a platter or in a bigger box and give to the person.
