I bartended for a few years, and guest really like it when you start asking about their day!. I found in my years of bartending that I became a therapist of sorts!. You would be surprised with what "hey, what can I get you", can start!. Try to read your guests, you can pretty much tell if they have had a good day or bad day by just the way they sit at your bar (also by what they order *lol*)!. also if all else fails you can talk about what is on the television (sport games- I actually had to learn about sports just so I could talk to my regulars about that)!. Understand your guests are going to LOVE you no matter what because you are giving them alcohol!. Relax and just be yourself and you will be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Whether someone fixes transmissions or is a navy seal, just ask questions like a talk show host!. "wow transmissions how exciting, how did you start doing that, how long, what type of car has the worst ones, etc!.
Do you know how many vacation pictures, pet pictures, and baby pictures of strangers I have sat through and you have to be sincere, even when you would rather talk to/watch paint dry!.
Just be kind, smile and friendly!. When all else fails clean the bottles to look like you are busy!.
And you have to do a shot once in a while!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Start by saying hello, enjoying this lovely wheather were having, thats a nice hair doo if its a girl my girlfriend wants something like that where did you get it cut!? We just got a new flavor of martini mix in let me tell you a bit about it, how about those (what ever sports team you root for)

Honestly if the customer wants to talk let them start the conversation first and if they dont well try something like a simple helloWww@FoodAQ@Com

this only works with a slow crowd but I used to keep a small bound book behind the bar and write down good jokes I'd heard!. after all you can hardly remember most of them by the end of the night!. ask some one if they would like to contribute a joke or read some of your faves!. Its a great way to include even shy peopleWww@FoodAQ@Com

I ask them how their day is going, or if there are tvs, i ask which team theyre rooting for, or ak a question about the sport or comment on the news broadcast!. Or I ask where they got a shirt, or watch theyre wearing!.!.!.its an easy way to start a convo!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Let the customer decide the topic!. It makes them feel more comfortable around you, and allows them to take you into their confidence!. It also makes for bigger tips!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ask them about what they do!. About their interests!. And also their favorite drink ;)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know when I go to bars I like to talk about my drinks!. Make small talk and jokes but don't be too flirty!. It could look tacky!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ask them about themselves - everyone wants to talk about themselvesWww@FoodAQ@Com
