Ideas for a "game party"? Maybe boardgames and drinking..?
Hi, going to have some friends over (mostly couples) to have a "game night". What games should we play, what should I serve, how should I set it up? I really need ideas - please help!!

Phase 10 is a card game that's really good for groups (you will need to get a Phase 10 deck, not a regular deck of cards). Taboo is also a great group game, a word game that gets people shouting. Then there are the traditional group games: Charades and Pictionary.
If you really want to go all out, you can get one of those mystery party games. Everyone gets a card that tells them what character they are. One person is the murderer, and the game consists of everyone trying to figure out who is the murderer (and the murderer trying to avoid being caught). There's one called Murder Mystery: A Taste for Wine And Murder (limited to 6-8 players).
What you serve depends on the day/time, the number and age range of guests, and the mood of the party (how "fancy" you want it). I think just hors d'oeurves and wine would be nice, but again that depends on a few factors.
For set up, make sure you have plenty of space to play whatever games you decide on. You could do it on a dining room table, or if it's very casual then your living room floor should suffice.
Have fun! Now I'm excited for you, wish I could come...
I was never big on games, so I can't answer that, but I can give you 2 quick appetizers. 1) Buy several packs of hot-dogs, cut ea.dog in 4 pieces . Put in a crock -pot with any knd of barbarcue sauce that you like, add alittle butter. Cook about an hr on high before serving, then just leave on lowest heat to keep warm. Very cheap and everyone loves it. You can also buy the Little tiny hot dogs, already bite-size, but they cost more. 2) Buy deli sliced ham (hopefully it's on sale), and cream cheese. Get the cream cheese room temp and add garlic or onion powder to it. Mix, then just smear it on the ham, one slice at a time. Roll up like a jelly roll , slice in 3-4 pieces and you have some great appetizers. Put a toothpick in ea.one for easy eating. As a main course, buy enough bags of frozen stuffed pasta shells. They are super-super easy to cook. Just pour your favorite spiced -up spegittie sauce on them, cook in oven and that's it. Frozen garlic texas toast is great with it . The texas toast taste alot better if you warm them up in fry pan ( they stay softer) instead of the oven, but either way is good
twister; taboo; charades
Taboo, Balderdash, and Pictionary are my favorite group games. I usually make chex mix or potato chips and dip or both. As far as drinks are concerned usually the normal soda type drinks work. If you are talking about alcoholic type drinks Margaritas on the rocks (no blending needed and you can buy them pre-made so no mixing either) works really well. Another drink that I like (my friends and I classify it as a dangerous drink because you can't taste the alcohol if mixed right) is Vanilla Vodka (any brand) and Ginger Ale or Coke.
Since it is at night, go w/ heavy snacks. Hit the frozen snack section at the grocery store for simplicity. Grab some chips, pre cut veggies and fruits. Use the two dips listed at the bottom. Grab some cupcakes from the bakery section for something sweet. For drinks, just have beer, couple of liquors, mixers and soft drinks.
For games, truth or dare jenga, uno, poker, trivial pursuit (one of the decade editions), twister are all great ones!
Dips:
Savory
Use 16 oz sour cream and 1 packet powdered salad dressing or soup mix
Sweet
Use 1 tub cool whip and 1-2 8 oz containers vanilla or fruit flavored yogurt
Dips taste best if made a few hours before hand, then stirred well before serving
