Does this sound like a good idea for a 14th birthday party?!
The problem is....I don't know if my friends would know how to tell my mom to cook their steaks and they're kind of picky so they might not like the way it was cooked or whatever. And what would we do after dinner?

Since you're going with a "star" theme maybe rent a karaoke machine for the night and everyone can be a rock star.
As for the steak, instead of individual steaks how about a beef tenderloin (which is like a big juicy steak) or a roast beef?
If you grill or roast a big cut, then slice and serve it elegantly, Mom only cooks one piece of meat, but everyone can select the more well done ends or more rare center slices as they prefer!
A gravy, steak sauce, ketchup, etc., can all be served on the side. And if Mom makes baked potatoes instead she has like ZERO fuss, because all she has to do is wash them, wrap each in a piece of tin foil, and bake the whole bunch for an hour until they're tender, and then pile them in a bowl or basket on the table and let everyone grab a potato and dress it how they like with butter or sour cream (or even have a bowl of shredded cheddar and bacon bits as a topping choice).
Happy Birthday!
Food writer and caterer.
Have it catered and save you mom from slaving on your birthday.
This should be an event EVERYONE can enjoy and if you can afford steaks in todays economy then you can afford to cater and take it easy on MOM.
Watch movies, hang out, play truth or dare, have a chugging contest, dance around, do makeovers! :D haha well if you're a guy idk but it sounds like a good idea :D
I'm a teenage girl I've had birthday parties
You could have an option on the RSVP. Have options with boxes for rare, medium rare, medium, and well done.
Or do grilled chicken instead.
That'd we fun! Instead of Steak you could have pizza and after dinner you can watch movies:)
just make a variety of them, or ask them before. but for the party part have other things to do besides sit around and watch movies because that gets boring
