How can you throw a houswarming party for a house being built in another state ?
We live in NY and would like to give a party celebrating our moving to our first home in Atlanta. It will be held in Ny before we leave ? What is the ettiquite? We want to register also, we never had a big wedding with a registry ?

hmmm, you want to have a housewarming party in NY for your new atlanta home? sounds like you are just trying to get some presents. but if you must do this, have a going away party.
Maybe call it a house blessing instead of a housewarming. In your invitation ask people to join you in a celebration in the blessing of your new home. Just put at the bottom the places where you are registered.
If anyone questions it, just let them know that you really wanted to share this time with them and didn't want them to have to travel out of town.
Make your own thank you cards with the picture of the house on the outside. Or you can do an electronic thank you with lots of pictures of the house (and how the gifts are used) since they won't be able to see it right away.
I don't think that is right - You could call it a going away party - and people could bring you something if they wanted - but wouldn't feel obligated. I wouldn't do a registry either. Maybe by word of mouth, but you kinda need to be in your new house to have a party for it. Sorry!
I would skip the registry for a housewarming..sounds a little tacky. make it a going away party and have a blast!
