Why is Cotton Candy Floss called "Cotton Candy"?!

Question:

Why is Cotton Candy Floss called "Cotton Candy"?

The men who invented it, named it "cotton candy floss".
In Australia it's "fairy floss".
In the UK, it's " Candy floss"
In the USA, it's Cotton Candy.
In Israel it's "granma's hair".

Why are there so many names for it if there was an actuall name for it , which was so to speak; Cotton Candy Floss.

LOl I remeber my Australian friend "MANDY", told me an interesting and funny story about this subject.
She was in a fair or park in the USA, and asked a man for Fairy Floss, and the man was all like
"WTH? WHAT DO YOU WANT? HUH? O_o'. He looked at her like she was some kind of insane person!

LOL.
