How much can I expect to pay for a caterer for a 50 person reception?!

Question:

How much can I expect to pay for a caterer for a 50 person reception?

The caterer will not have to provide beverages or plates, napkins, etc, only an assortment of hot and cold finger foods.

Let me elaborate by saying we live in the semi-rural midwest. And we will provide our own dessert (a special occasion cake).

you pay per person... somewhere in the $15 to $20 for only finger foods i would estimate.... different geographical locations will fluctuate cost, also there are inexpensive and expensive caterers

I BELIVE IT ABOUT 15 UP TO 20 DOLLARS FOR EACH PERSON IF YOUR ONLY DOING FINGER FOODS,
BUT!!!!!!! YOU CA SAVE ON THE MONEY IF YOU DO THIS YOUR SELF
BUY ABOUT 20 LOVES OF BREAD AND SANDWITCH MEATS AND MAYO,AND DO THIS TWO NIGHTS BEFORE
AND THATS ALL IT WILL COST YOU,AND FOR THE HOT FOODS
SARVE PASTA DISHES,YOU CANN'T GO WRONG.I HAVE DONE THIS

$8 - 10

If you live in a rural area you might find some women from your local church or women's group who can cater for a reasonable amount, but $15 - $20 is totally not out of line and very reasonable. Basically what you chose to serve determines the cost. If you want finger sandwiches of steak and shrimp appetizers, etc. your cost will be higher than finger sandwiches of chicken salad and a veggie platter with dip. The best thing to do is estimate your budget first, then meet with a caterer and see what they offer and work from there. Usually they have a price list with possibilities listed, but you can change the choices to increase or decrease the cost.

You may decide to have the caterer do the hot foods and you and friends provide cold salads, appetizers, dips, etc. on your own. Having grown up in a rural area in Indiana I found that things could be done for less and often nicer than done in the city.

Be creative and have a great party!

figure 20 dollars per person.

Depends on what kind of reception you are having. If it is a sit down with three entrees expect to pay more. A buffet expect to pay less. But call the caterers in your town and ask them.

It really depends on what kind of food you want to serve. If you want the expensive foods like steaks and lobster, you'll get stuck with the high bill. If you go for like Fried Chicken from KFC or Hardee's, or have a Pizza Party like, it will be a way lot cheaper for you.
