Wedding reception ideas?!

Question:

Wedding reception ideas?

I'm getting married in 3wks..I'm having a formal dinner for immediate family after the wedding & reception (about 50 people). I was just going to have a cake, punch and nuts reception immediately following the wedding. However I've been thinking, and I'm wondering if I should serve a little bit more for those who aren't coming to the dinner. It's going to be late afternoon, and over with before dinnertime. Any suggestions?

I think what you are serving is just fine. HOWEVER, I would really not want the fact that you are having a fancy dinner afterward become a well known fact. It will probably make some guest feel left out. Like they are good enough to attend the wedding and put out for a gift and they get cake, whoppee, they aren't good enough for the real food. I just would keep that part quiet.

If it's going to be over before dinner, don't worry about feeding them anything else. Cake & punch will be lovely. Then they can go out to dinner or go home.
By the way, the dinner for family following reception is a great idea. I wish I would have done that for my wedding. :o)

Since the dinner is for immediate family you should offer a little more than cake, punch and nuts after all the people were nice enough to attend the reception.

How about fruit salad, toss sald & a meat tray.

It would be nice to pass a small something or have a table for munchies. If you want to keep things on the inexpensive side I think some bruchetta, finger sandwiches, mini pastries, and maybe some Swedish meatballs would do well, along with chips etc. for kids. Up slightly in price from there a nice shrimp cocktail, bite-sized chicken, or bacon wrapped scollop's would do nice. Basically any hour devours would do well, and most of this can be pre-made very nicely at your local supermarket deli. Good luck!

How about have some littel appetizer like bruschetta, fried raviolis , chesse and fruit plate and other stuff like that try also going to http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/et_pa_we... it has food just idea just for weddings.

i'm with joyful...just the cake and punch is fine...they can go get their own dinner...the reason they're attending is to help you celebrate your committment, not getting a free (expensive) meal...

You could just do a simple veggie platter with dip and cheese and crackers. I think cake and punch are great but you may have just a few people who are not allowed to eat it and they maybe may feel like they've missed out some how. Don't do a bunch of stuff. The last thing you want to do on your wedding day is worry about some snack food for guests.Congrats by the way!!!

Stacy, save your money hun. If the reception will be over before dinner, they won't expect food. Just enjoy the cake, etc and your friends.

Good Luck and Congrats!!

hi.. u dont have to provide guests with a light meal.. how about a large chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmellow? or an iced sculptured drinkng fountain(where u pour down the shots of vodka) or tables of blackjacks or russian roulette.. not with real $ but tokens. congrats!
