I'm not quite getting the gist of the idea...if they pick "a name" out of a hat, then what? hmmm...how about naming certain notable spots in US...like Grand Canyon, Golden Gate Bridge, Everglades, the Alamo, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas casinos, etc (get something from all parts of the country..from New England to West coast). Have guests name which state that place is located? It doesn't have to be every state..just something representative of each area.. famous tourist attractions for some of them. You can always print out pics of these places, too.

And like the previous answer....any kind of foods would go...any ethnic cuisines--you can't miss with that ;).

I think it's sweet that you are planning on doing this. Yes, your family member probably wants to experience your cuisine/culture, but in america, we usually feel the hate from the rest of the world, so to feel that maybe someone somewhere else appreciates us feels pretty good.
For a seating idea, try placecards with first ladies to U.S. presidents written on them, since it will be a ladies get together. You could still pick out of a hat if you want.
Eleanor Roosevelt, Hilary Clinton, Jackie Kennedy, Mary Lincoln, Dolly Madison, Martha Washington, etc.
Your friend, I know, will appreciate your effort, no matter what you do.

That's the beauty of America, you can have so many different cuisine's and they're all a representation of the States. Why not go with them all, a little Mexican, Italian, Chinese, or even good old southern comfort food.

1. Tortillas
2. Pasta
3. Chicken (baked or fried)
4. Chef salad

You can try anything and it wouldn't be wrong :)

i would be so dissapointed if i went abroad and i had to eat what i eat everyday at home

i am from Scotland
if i went to america i would want to experience THEIR food
not mine made by someone who hadnt made it before and not with local ingredients

they want to experience your culture, your food and your company
