My daughter will be turning 5 in april. the sundae bar is an awesome idea. i never thought of this. Yes its messy but theyll love it i would have a few adults up there with them or each childs parent make it a line and have the parents helping but allowing the kids to do it too. Have the cupcakes pre iced if u want so that not adding to the mess. it wouldnt bee to messy though if done right with help!! I would start with the food if theres food for the party then i would do any games u may have planned then presents and then the sundae bar!!!
Dont listen to everyone else kids r gonna be kids and want to have fun and i think theyll love this and it will not be too much sugar if u do it in the order i suggested. and you could still do bag decorating as one of the games! Kids love hands on fun! so both is what i would do in the order i said so theres wind down time in between the sugar! i have all different kinds of kids all different ages at my daughters party and ive done guess how many M&ms or skittles r in a jar and u win the jar and the candy! they loves that! and I did a pool party at a hotel for my daughters 4th that was the best!
So Start with the meal if ur having one then the cake and or cupcakes and move on to games to keep um interested and then the ba decorating and lastly the sundae bar or the sundae bar after games and then the bag decoratying last that way the bag decorating calms them down and dont send them home all hyper from them having the sundawe bar last but i think it will be just fine as long as its parent monitored No darn different then cake with ice cream every year frop most all kids just adding sum fun topping with sum do it yourself fun!
They'll only throw up if you give them too much ice cream and then have them jumping up and down and running around. You can control the amount of ice cream by giving them a bowl with say a scoup or two(no more than two) and then letting them put the toppings on their ice cream themselves.
I'd really watch out for the kids getting too much sugar and getting sick. It could get messy too!

i think the one with the candies and bag decorating sounds fun for a small child... not the sundaes
I like the goodie bag idea. I have a girl that age and I wouldn't really want her to be at a party with sundaes AND cupcakes. If you are set on the sundae bar (which is a cute idea!) do that and fruit/veggies or something. For my daughter's 4th b-day we went to a park and had hotdogs and cupcakes. Then they ran off the sugar at the playground. And no one had to clean up their house or anything. It was nice. Both of your ideas are good but I would stick to one sweet thing. Good luck!
