How do you make a tiered cupcake stand?!

Question:

How do you make a tiered cupcake stand?

My daughter is turning one in a week. I'm making cupcakes for her party. I'd really like to know if anyone out there knows how to make a tiered cupcake stand. I'd like it to look grand and whimsical. I have a tight budget so low cost ideas are best.
Thanks

One inexpensive idea is to get 3 different size plastic plates from the dollar store and 2 plastic cups, make them fun colors that coordinate so all you have to do is layer them, plate, hot glue cup upside down on middle of plate, then smaller plate, glue next size cup, then smallest plate. Whala! Cupcake stand!

The previous answer is great or you can use plates that you already have. It works best if using all circular plates and platters. If you have a large platter, a dinner plate and a smaller salad plate you can start with the large platter, then using a bud vase balance the middle plate on it, and using a glass or shorter vase you can balance the smallest plate. With little ones around, however, I like the idea of using strong disposable dishes. Go to a party store and you can pick up disposable serving platters which will be stronger than regular plastic plates.
