Question:

Can anyone tell me an easy way to remove the pithe ( whiteveins) off an orange?

I would like to serve CLEAN sections of various orange varities when entertaing guests. I don't like canned mandarins - they don't even taste like oranges

Answers:
steam the orange for about 30 seconds. this will loosen the skin and get most of the pithe with it

i usually just cut the skin off first then peel it

my mom said she uses a orange peeler and try to be careful not to rip into your oranges,grapefruits...

The white part is actually the healthiest part of an orange...nibble it off for good health. That's true, but I'm kidding :)

On the cooking network, they use a knive to cut away the skin so that the sections fall out. It works best with grapefruit, so I'm guessing you'd need the largest oranges you can find for this.

the easiest way to remove the pith of any citrus fruit, is to take a sharp!! paring knife and cut just the pith, not the fruit, as if you were peeling a potato. this is how the chefs do it. hope this helps.

Get your smallest, sharpest, knife and cut it all off. That's the best I can sugguest, sorry.

Peel the orange as you normally would. Get your sharpest knife out and cut "V" shaped sections out in between the white veins. You will lose some of the orange, but you won't have any of the veins in the secitions.
