10 year old "birthday" ideas for around town...not a party!?!

Question: 10 year old "birthday" ideas for around town...not a party!?
So there is this lovely girl that me and my friend are sort of mentors to. We babysit her on fridays and she is turning 10 on february 18th!
She is an only child who lives with her mom who is not particularly in good standing when it comes to money/lifestyle...and we'd like to take her out to eat and do something, but I'm not sure what to do!

I'm 17 and I drive, and was thinking maybe ice skating...or a movie? I'm at a loss for ideas. She acts extremely mature for her age, so I just don't know.

Any ideas would be wonderful!
Thanks!

Make a list of things you know she likes and then think of places that would fit that. For example, if you know she loves animals then take her to the zoo. If she loves movies, then have a mini party for her by renting a classic good movie, make lots of popcorn, and have a homemade cake for her. This mini party will mean a lot more to her than being in a theater full people she doesn't know.

What are her interests?

Going to a toy store for her present.
Go to a book store for her present
Go to a craft store, buy what she likes (like buy beads and make necklaces)or paper and paints, etc...sometimes they have classes for card making, or whatever...
Ice cream shop for her birthday dessert

If you know how to teach her to skate(Id just get a sore butt)...let her pick.

I would take her to play putt-putt golf, and ride some go-carts. I remember doing that for my 10th birthday, It was pretty awesome. Take plenty of pictures, get them developed, and then make a little scrapbook of her birthday and give it to her as a gift.

just take her to chuck e cheeses for a few hours. that's where i go everyday, and im 14
