Ok. So Midwest folks like cheese and onions on their chili. Anything else?!
Answers:
I live in nebraska. I like my chili topped with different things. Depends on how I'm eating it: just in a bowl, with crackers, chips? In a bowl I like tons of cheese. Same with crackers. And if its with chips ill add cheese lettuce and sour cream. Yum. Oh and tomatoes are a must at all times. :D
Corn chips, nacho chips, catsup are possible additions and some have two way chilli which is spaghetti topped with chilli! There are some who make their chilli using venison in place of ground beef resulting in a very lean chilli. Also, some make white chilli using chicken breasts for the meat and navy beans with the traditional chilli spices.
What is even more fun is a chilli supper where everyone brings a batch and then all pots of chilli are mixed together and shared. Mmmmmm good!
"Midwest folks" are not all the same in their preferences by any means. Offer smaller bowls of chopped onion, cheese, jalapenos, avocado, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes for guests to choose their own. Also a variety of crackers and chips.
We put original Fritos in the bottom of the bowl, then the chili, then the cheese and onions. We don't use saltine crackers, just Fritos.
Onion and cheese is good. A few chopped Jalapenos would be nice. Crackers definitely.
Lettuce?! What's that about? Who raised you?
Salt.
