Is it alright for a 16yr old to go to this party?!

Question: Is it alright for a 16yr old to go to this party?
I'm 16. My parents won't let me go to this house party. There will be alcohol, but it isn't one of those big rowdy parties with drugs and sex. Basically it's just hanging out and getting drunk (or at least buzzed) playing board games and goofing off. My parents say that the biggest danger is someone taking advantage of me (slipping a date rape drug in my drink or whatever) but the party is all friends; people I know well enough that would not do that even if they were drunk. Even when I ask to go to a party without alcohol my parents say that will happen. Are they right?

Its just that they doesn want you to fall prey for anything. As much as you think you are familiar with these people, alocohol normally takes a different turn.

Your parents are logical in what they say. Need to maintain a balance between your maturity and their trust in you, which will happen, in time.

I agree with your parents. Though I have gone to a few parties myself I always find that drinking causes problems. Though you may have friends there people can't control there actions under the influence and things happen. Though it may not be extreame like a date rape drug there is a possibility that you may have to much to drink so that you can't even function and you can be taken advantage of just as easily with impaired motor skills as with drugs

Personal experience

i see your parents point of view and im 17. even if you trust these people, drunk people are a whole different side of who they normally are. I would be angry if my parents didnt let me go only because i feel independent but at the same time i understand. when alcohol is involved it doesnt matter how calm the party starts, bad things usually escalate

lol. i would say go.
it doesnt sound tht "dangerous"
anyway its all friends
just make sure u dont let go of your drink or have a new one and then come back to an old one.
also dont go into the hosts house alone, (execpt for da bathroom lol) cuz that just makes you look rowdy.
also make sure you leave at a responsible time , and dont be the last one to leave.
and just because its a gettin wasted party doesnt mean U have to get wasted.
u can still have fun

All these answers are crap!!!!
Over here in the Uk kids start gettin pissed from the age of 12/13 hardly anyone ever gets drugged or date raped, Partys are fun, Ive travelled the world Australia, new zealand, Thailand, US and often went out and got pissed with complete strangers (and NEVER got drugged or even heard of anyone close getting druged,) Ive had some great times, and have tons of stories
Do it kid, live a little

Lots and lots and lots of personal experiance,

you should have just told your parents:
"its just gonna be like a chill night with a whole bunch of friends"
and left it at that. dont tell them theres gonna be alcohal and people might
get drunk but nothing would happen, it makes it sound worse than it really is.
:)

There trying to make you safe. Im not even your age yet but i would understand if my parents said that to me. They wont all be your close friends, anything could happen try and talk to the person holding the party about it.

I don't like to be mean but it's a short night and if more than twenty thirty people are there then more will show up and bring friends with them

Yeah its definitely alright if its your friends but once strangers get involved you watch out

nope
~

I've seen people with and without alcohol. A person who's perfectly reasonable (or somewhat unreasonable) when sober can quickly become a completely different person when under the influence.

While the party might be 'just you and your friends', one of your friends might bring someone you don't know. A date-rape drug works just as well in a can of soda as it does in a can of beer.

Besides, if your party is raided by the police and the alcohol is found, ALL of you go to jail. At your age, a DUI can result in losing your driver's license or having it delayed. And you don't want to think about what can happen if you were in an accident while under the influence.

Your parents want what is best for you. And yes, it may seem that not going to this party would seem boring, but they want to protect you.

I'm a parent of 4 teens and there is no way I would let my kids go. As was stated in other answers, when alcohol is involved things can get out of hand very quickly. Also, you are under the legal drinking age, so if the party would get raided, the consequences could be serious just because you are there, even if you aren't drinking. Someone could easily bring someone you don't know and things get out of hand. That happened at a party from work, someone brought a friend who acted like a slut around her coworkers and embarrassed her to death. So you never know what will happen, especially when alcohol is involved. Your parents arent trying to ruin your fun, just protect their greatest treasure in the world.
